Cyber Monday is coming. 2 choices, use my 2009 Jamis Diablo with a Diy kit, or Amazon.. kit has bigger motor, and is much cheaper, but batteries bring the price within a couple hundred bucks. Would be used in suburbia to get to boat and tear up the Az culdesacs. As usual, thanks in advance..

I have several bikes, tandem, road...

I have had to get rid of some. Limited space is an issue, but riding only one bike at a time is also limiting.

My E-Joe has made biking even more fun. He hangs from the ceiling and goes for twenty miles. Five levels of assist and seven gears to I can get home even after he buys the farm.

Best of all, he folds in the middle and fits into a suit case.

Not what you want to hear, perhaps, but avoid an e-bike and do your health a world of good by going with a L-bike(legs bike). It will only go as fast and as long as your muscles can go. Also, as the per force slower pace implies, it might re-introduce you to a more tranquil appreciation of things around you by not racing around effortlessly with electricity. Beyond that, it has been my observation that some nasty little accidents may have been avoided by some e-bike riders, had they the awareness of truly how much faster they can travel and that stopping or avoiding things is trickier at 40mph versus 15mph on two wheels. Ultimately, it is more of a better health issue in the long run. Happy riding!

I hate the f#*kers...especially when they pass me on the local trail like I am standing still (might be time to get one).

3 hips preclude me from pushing it too hard... In Az it's all dirt and asphalt just need something to get me to the store for smokes.. :). Here, well the boat is 5 mins from house by car, 7 by bike.. grocery store too. and that hill is getting annoying....

I didn’t want to hassle with a build so I bought a couple. E-Lux because 1)great reviews 2) close by. It’s an “electric assist”. Means you can set a threshold below which the motor kicks in. Above that you are doing the work. Also except for a separate hand throttle it only assist when you are pedaling and once again only when you fall below the speed threshold you set. So it’s a multi gear bike I can get all the exercise I want and when I’m lazy or the wind shifts into my face or the hill is huge I can allow the assist to kick in. Really like them. Only down side is they are heavy……very heavy. 66 lbs. All in all I’m a fan.

I bought two Trek 'Allante 7+' last year, about $3800/per. Latest Bosch motor/control, great components. And yes I'm a bit of a bike snob. I actually wanted to buy a higher model which had a better derailleur & gearing but they were sold out across USA. I'm quite happy with the 7+, never get close to running the batt dry over 4 days of use, don't need the better drivechain as when the road goes up you can just increase electron burning. Bosch system waits to sense crank movement before adding assist - in the two upper ranges you need to be ready for this at the start or the bike will get out ahead of you!

I bought one this spring and could not be happier with it. I biked over 600 miles this summer, which for some is nothing but is a new record for me. Used it a lot with a kiddie trailer, which has become my rolling workshop, when i go to the boat. Im already looking forward to next year

Wet coast.
1500 km on my Rad Rover. If you live in a place with hills getting an ebike means you will use it for daily errands. On a legs bike I would not do those hills over and over again.

I have a legs bike for the trails - the Rad is too cumbersome for trail riding.

If I lived in a relatively flat place a legs bike would be fine, but I don't.

A pedal assist e-bike is just like a regular bike except you're going a whole lot faster. It feels a bit like an exercise bike at the gym because you can adjust the assist level to suit your mood/conditions. Haven't ridden my regular bike since I got the e-bike, but "one day" I'll ride it again!
