I like the Titans on my boats but my boats are not that big. I have never used them on larger boats. Realistically unless it is a calm daysail your not turning the boat around and finding a float winch handle.
As for leaving the handles in the winches. It depends on the winch and handle combination. Some are more secure than others.
Alot of cruisers will have electric primaries. We always have to teach visitors that if they leave a handle in one of those it will get flung over the side by the plunger. Every winch handle I have scene go overboard came out of an electric winch. I have given up on my macho and just let the electric winches do their job. The owner spent alot of money on them. I will respect the investment...
I have not tried the flipper, if someone wants to send me 4 of them I will right an unbiased review. Cause if I hate them I will just re-sell them them on Ebay.

Somewhere near the wet stuff.
The Titans are OK for lightly loaded lines, but while I have never broken one the amount of twist they develop when heavily loaded is off-putting.
And as for the floating bit, it just distracts the helmsman while he decides not to turn around!

As a skipper, I found crew discipline became far more of an issue when we moved to the plastic winch handles...something intimidating about the old bronzies really ensured you had the crews attention! As for floating..? I threw the crew responsible for the loss in with the handle....not surprisingly ...after the first example....I never lost a handle!
