Must have been a tough race. Postponed starts with lots of DNFs and a few TLEs. Short course option invoked?

Extremely slow at the start. Two classes AP'd for about an hour. Super variable the rest of the race. Breeze completely shut off within 1 mile of the finish, fleet condensed, and many boats sat over an hour to drift over the line.

Short course option was used. Sitting right at the finish near ECH for over an hour was a bit annoying. There’s “light” wind and then there’s “no” wind, this was the latter. nobody was making way for a long time, thank god the tide was slack by that point. I could have gone below, taken a nap, and missed nothing. #LIS

You should have drank a half bottle before the race, it wouldn't' have matteredHow many boats hit the rc boat trying to finish in current and no wind ? How many boats got pushed past the finish line and couldn’t get back on course side.

Not sure it was frivolous. Nobody likes to protest, instead of being at the party you are in the room. But the whole premise of the sport is if somebody breaks the rules your only remedy is to protest.
Also I have no horse in that division.
Glad I was finished before all those pictures were taken! We were becalmed for a long time but got a nice 2knot puff that was at the proper angle for the A2 and we were able to cross the line at a relatively good clip!

Is it against the rules to hike to leeward and get weight out of the ass end of the boat these days on LIS? Or just unfashionable to try too hard.

Not for us. Sailing DH me the fat guy was up at the bow pulpit, wife was trimming the A2 and steering with the autopilot. Anything to make the race end. Seemed to help.

Suggestion . . . when it is that light, sometimes it is faster to drop the genoa.
