Since this has absolutely nothing to do with guns and the ability of guns to make you safe. I'll just add that mental illness is a desperate monster that feeds off innocent people everywhere.

Not that I disagree with regards to the US minding it's own business, but it could have something to do with our friends from the southern hemisphere racing into PA each time there is a mass shooting in the US to lecture us about how shitty we are here.

The good news is that guns weren't used.
Whyzzat Specious? Those poor kids hurt less because someone used a knife to take their innocent lives? That poor family's gotta be devastated.

Concern for them is a whole lot more important than anyone's attempt to make points from spinning this tragedy.
Sorry, but it seems the OP was indicating that a gunless society is more dangerous. I don't think so. The OP is spinning this tragedy. Take it up with him.

Manoora has a large Aboriginal/Native population, lots of problems in that community with the government considering welfare quarantining to prevent them buying drugs and alcohol, the usual cries of racism from the leftists.

Australia did not ban guns and we have not reduced our firearm numbers, it is a fact our firearm numbers are the highest they have ever been despite what the ignorant claim while at the exact same time we have our lowest ever firearm crime rates.

Our firearm crime rate decreased while the numbers of legally owned firearms have increased, this is a fact the anti gun bigots appear to ignore.

Dr Samara McPhedran wrote this-

Our reduction in firearm crime came from trying to prevent criminals and the mentally ill from owning firearms, there has been an huge increase in firearm numbers, it's a lie the firearm numbers have decreased.

A rural landowner can purchase a semi auto centrefire rifle with a 30 round magazine in Queensland, can you own one of them in California,Ma or Ny, did someone say these were outlawed in 1996?
Wtf? This has got to be the best post you have written.

its been a long time since I have jumped into a gun thread here. I have come to accept the fact that gun reform in the us is impossible, as have most aussies who post here. Thats your problem. It would be remiss of me to point out the hypocrisy of you post though.

Gun reform? WTF is that? I think you mean "violence reform". But I'll take the bait. It is NOT impossible, but it is increasingly unlikely because our politicians lake the will, the courage and the patience to actually address the real problem. The real problem is not guns or a gun culture in the US. We've ALWAYS had a gun culture. The real problem is a violence culture along with a refusal to address societal issues like lack of access to mental health, drugs prohibition, poverty, socio-economic inequality, children exposed to ultra-violent media (Music, movies, games) etc. ALL of those things drive crime and violence.

When you ignore all of that and try to focus on "gun violence" alone - you miss the entire point. A gun is simple a tool. Just like the knife was a tool to the mother. We should no more blame a gun used in a murder by a mentally deranged person any more than we should blame the knife used in this case. Her mental sickness killed those children. The knife was simply a tool.

As an avid gun owner - I FULLY support background checks to deny access to criminals and the mentally ill. IN the US, there are literally 1000s of gun laws on the books - I would rather we enforce those before we knee-jerk our way to more every time there is a murder. But more importantly, we need to look at the bigger picture of WHY people are murdering others (regardless of the tool used) and address those root causes. The problem with that is that it requires courage, determination and paitience on the part of politicians AND the people - because those things will not change overnight. But politicans don't get elected for working on things that take a decade to see results. They need feel-good fuzzy gestures RIGHT THE FUCK NOW so they can be seen as "doing something", even if that something is actually counter-productive. I can tell you that every time a politician in the US knee-jerks a new proposal for "gun-control" - he or she sets the potential for real reform back for two reasons: 1) because there will be a backlash from people who don't want their rights taken away and they will fight tooth and nail. And 2) because time, effort and resources spent on knee-jerk gun control takes away from the focus on real societal reform.

And that's the state of play we have today in the US.

I don't think violence is the root cause of a mum killing her kids and then attempting suicide.

This event has no relationship to, say, gangbangers.

You have posted previously about evil people. So to me the choices are simple. If people are good, weapons used for violent purposes are irrelevant, no one has a desire to commit violent acts. If people are violent, giving them the tools to facilitate these acts of violence are a no no.

Of course, your weapons are protected by some words on a piece of paper, so end of story.

I agree & while there are exceptions I don't read Aussie posts as lecturing anyone, at worst it's expressing opinions & making reasonable points. In contrast, the Seppo reactions are often rabidly aggressive, defensive, dismissive, harassing etc. & the bickering escalates. There are few brave enough to conceed points of view that may suggest cracks in their own. This thread is a case in point

Did the phrase ".....and mentally ill" in my post above yours not even register with you? Do you have a learning disorder? Dyslexia or something?

why would I argue against what you have written about the mentally ill? I agree. No need to argue about it. Same as there is no need for insults.

Then why the hell would you say that "violence" and gangs had nothing to do with the mother stabbing her kids when you knew that I was obviously including her in the mentally ill category? No fucking DUH!

Which leaves only the possibility that you were deliberately being a jackass and avoiding having to actually address my point.... which is that the type of weapon is irrelevant to the discussion. Stop being deliberately obtuse and I will stop insulting you.
