DeSantis suspends Tampa prosecutor who took stance against criminalizing abortion providers

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday suspended Tampa's elected prosecutor, Andrew Warren, for pledging not to use his office to go after people who seek and provide abortions or on doctors that provide gender affirming care to transgender people.

DeSantis also accused Warren of not pursuing criminals to the fullest extent of his powers as the state attorney of Hillsborough County.

"To take a position that you have veto powers over the laws of the state is untenable," DeSantis said at a press conference in Tampa surrounded by law enforcement.

The move by DeSantis, a Republican, to remove a Democrat twice elected by Hillsborough voters drew an immediate and sharp rebuke from Democratic state lawmakers and officials. Minority Leader Sen. Lauren Book said DeSantis was "behaving more like a dictator than 'America's governor.'" And Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, a Democratic candidate for governor, called Warren's suspension "a politically motivated attack on a universally respected state attorney democratically elected to exercise prosecutorial discretion."

The abortion statute is still in court and has a long way to go through the appellate process. Kinda early for political theater but I guess Nikki Friend’s announcement yesterday about pushing for a constitutional amendment to strengthen Floridian’s right to privacy in the state constitution put the heat on Captain Ron. Good idea on her part, if I do say so myself.

In any other state, DeSantis would never get away with taking away the people's will. DeSantis has done a good job stacking the Florida Supreme Court, And the yes men of the Florida legislature. Here in L.A. Alex Villanueva, is the elected Sheriff of Los Angeles County. He won't even answer a subpoena from the Police Commission Oversight Board.

The anti abortion Chief Justice can thank Charlie Crist for his seat on the bench. Now Charlie has changed his party and supposedly his position on the issue.

So I live in the county and he’s done a good job. Crime is down in Tampa. At the same time he’s done away with bullshit prosecutions And police overreach. For example cops love to roust black people riding bikesunder the assumption that they’re drug dealer. White on a bike? - you’re fine. He just refused to prosecute fruit from a poisoned tree. Dude has been elected twice what the fuck should DSatan have to say of it.

Equally disgusted by the politician sheriffs at his side. Which is another thing why the hell are sheriffs elected And not appointed by the county?

I read that a former Broward sheriff was fired by DeSantis and he is still a former Broward sheriff. If it had been me, I would do a federal civil rights claim.

In a related note I’m waiting for the DOJ to prosecute Trump. Progress is equally glacial.

Exclusive: Trump lawyers in talks with Justice Department about January 6 criminal probe

(CNN)Former President Donald Trump's legal team is in direct communication with Justice Department officials, the first sign of talks between the two sides as the criminal probe into January 6, 2021, accelerates, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN. The talks revolve around whether Trump would be able to shield conversations he had while he was president from federal investigators. In recent weeks, investigators have moved aggressively into Trump's orbit, subpoenaing top former White House officials, focusing on efforts to overturn the 2020 election and executing searches of lawyers who sought to aid those efforts.

The Trump team's discussions are with the US attorney's office in Washington, DC, which is in charge of the investigation, and its top January 6 prosecutor Thomas Windom, the sources said. The conversations have not been previously reported. At this stage, the conversations are focused mostly on whether any communications that witnesses from the Trump West Wing had with the former president can be kept from a federal criminal grand jury under Trump's claims of executive privilege, the people said.

The Justice Department has been anticipating a court fight with Trump over executive privilege. The issue has arisen as grand jury subpoenas have been issued to two former White House counsel's office officials and to former Vice President Mike Pence's chief counsel and chief of staff. Trump's legal defense team has warned him that indictments are possible, sources tell CNN.

Some members of Trump's legal team have discussed his potential defense strategies on at least two occasions in recent months, according to two sources familiar with the matter, as they brace for new developments in the Justice Department probe and a separate investigation by Georgia officials into his potentially criminal meddling in the state's 2020 election results. Rolling Stone previously reported that Trump had been briefed. Trump has grilled his attorneys on whether they actually believe he will face formal charges, sources said. Yet the former President has expressed a heavy dose of skepticism that he will be indicted, one of the sources familiar with the matter said.

Wray Admits The FBI Never Investigated Brett Kavanaugh Sexual Assault Tips

FBI Director Chris Wray admitted during Senate testimony that tips about Brett Kavanaugh and sexual assault were never investigated but instead given to Donald Trump.

Director Wray said, “I apologize that in advance that it’s been frustrating for you, we’ve tried to be clear about our process, so when it comes to the tip line, we wanted to make sure that the White House had all the information we have so when the hundreds of calls started coming in we gathered those up reviewed them and provided them to the White House without investigation.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) asked, “You reviewed them for purposes of separating from tip-line traffic but did not further investigate the ones that related to Kavanaugh, correct?

Wray answered, “Correct.”

Sen. Whitehouse has been trying to get answers from the FBI for years about the sham investigation into the Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault claims. Thanks to Sen. Whitehouse (D-RI), the nation now knows that the FBI allowed the Trump administration to decide who could be questioned and what could be asked.

The investigation was a fraud. The FBI collected the tips and then handed them to Trump as he ran the “investigation” into his Supreme Court nominee. If it chose to do so, the Senate could open an investigation into the sham investigation and the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh.

When Trump and the GOP conned Brett Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court, an injustice was done. A wrong was committed that deserves to be righted.
