Elon Musk is a genius

Incorrect. Or at least off target.

He dropped the price to get the model under 50K. That qualifies them for the US gov tax credit of $7500 per car. This gets the price down to low 40s. About the same as an ICE Camry.

More importantly, it s a giant kick in the nuts to Ford. Ford has been having issues producing EVs. They have quality issues EVERYWHERE making them lose money. And they just increased the price of F150 lightenings by $40,000 for 2023. They are going to have to retract much of that increase. And forget about increasing estang prices.

Tesla has a LOT of competition coming online.
Ford is floundering, Stellantis is a joke when it comes to EVs, and GM wants to flood the market with cheap shit boxes built in China (they own a large equity in many of the EV companies in CCP).
VW/AUDI is about to unleash multiple models based on a common platform

Tesla can sit there and hope things get better, or they can attack before others get a foothold.

Add to the fact Elon is pissed at the Biden administration ignoring Telsa while lavishing praise on Ford and GM. They were not even invited to the EV summit at the white house even though they sold more cars than all the other manufacturers combined. He is out to make his competition look bad. Ego?? Likely.

Tesla is master of margin. Toyota admits Tesla is 7x more profitable per unit then they are. How is Tesla 7x better than the company that took out the big 3 in the 80s and 90s by building higher quality cars at a lower price? how is GM or Ford to compete when they have not been able to for the past 30 years.

Yes they are shafting the owners of the lower end Teslas ( cuts only affect the low end models), but making the cars more affordable puts a warning shot across the bows of the competition. The cut opens up the mid range market where volume is king as long as you are profitable (see Margin King above). They are out to bankrupt their competition with a preemptive strike.

I do not have the numbers, but Tesla fanbois are some of the most loyal and hang onto their cars since the style does not change year to year and they never wear out (or so they say..). so they will not be affected since they are going to drive theirs into the ground.
I believe Elon's thinking is if some flippers get burned, fuck em..

You seem to have the scoop on EV's; what do you recomend for the most cost effecive small EV or hybrid for daily under 50 mile routine to be garaged and plugged back in after?? Used or new, and warranty very important to me, don't want any expensive surprises.

The most interesting thing is that any action by Musk leads to more talk about him or his companies, and black PR is also PR. In the end the product will win, Elon will be kicked out again and the market will be taken over by Tesla again. At least the electric cars.

At $66K, the Model Y LR was hella overpriced. The $7500 Federal EV tax credit is limited to $55K of 'cars' and $80K for 'SUVs'. It has income limits at the high end and doesn't carry over to next year. The Y is now $52,990 which with a tow package or a color option sneaks in under that. It also may shut down in March when new mineral content rules come out. In CA, the Y currently doesn't qualify for the $2K CVRP rebate until Tesla reapplies.

After all that at $4xK, it's fair. Tesla still makes bank on their margins because they've invested heavily in bringing everything in house. Even the leather seat covers in my S was manufactured by Tesla. Ford and GM part out their cars. However, let's be honest. They only got there at all because of Federal and State EV tax credits.

Here is a new video saying Elon is also going after ICE models to cripple profits of competing automakers making it harder for them to get into the EV business. a bit of an expansion on my theory.

Myself, I know jack shit about EVs so I cannot help you. Only battery motors i have are in a drill and a weed trimmer.
Just took delivery of my 2023 Wrangler with a 2.0 turbo developed for Alfa Romeo 5 years ago putting out 270 hp and almost 300 fl lbs of torque at 1600 rpm. 25 mpg in town and 19 pulling a trailer at highway speeds. I live in the boonies. Trying to run from a cat 4 or 5 hurricane will consume half the range just getting to US 95 (main east coast highway). Instead I can hunker down at the Jack Daniels distillary waaaay inland..

Picked this 2017 up for 10k yesterday, 23k on the clock, 1 owner. New tires and racks included. 4 more years on battery warranty. California gives me a rebate 2k and my utility gives be a 2k rebate. The car will be after that 6.

If I sell it within a year for 9, I am still up 2500. :)

I think that speculation in DOGE is kinda wrongheaded ... unlike Bitcoin and Ether, there is no upper limit on the number of coins that can be mined, and the difficulty to mine the coins doesn't increase significantly.

There is little point to pay high dollar for a limitless resource.

I like that, a small nimble EV; but the prices are about 30% more here on the right coast!!

Munro is an expert of Tesla manufacturing.
He explains that Tesla is making 40 percent margins (explains how) and how this will destroy their competition.

Basically Elon is coping what Henry Ford did 100 years ago with vertical integration.

came across this clip today.
Holy Batshit, Elon is zeroed in on taking out Ford using Henry Ford's principals
Much like Bill Gates mimicked Thomas Edison, Elon is a modern day Henry Ford.

He recently recommended using Lists. Yeah, if I made a List of the people I follow then my List feed would look right like it did before Elon.
