Over there
Its not like others cant sail (the French being the exception). They could either sail the previous cup boats or build their own LEQ12's. The teams knew the situation and chose the best path for them and their challenge. I think "stacking the deck" is a bit of a stretch
Is this your first America's Cup you're following?

The very notion of the AC is a stacked deck! How else did the 'Muricans hold onto it for 130+ years? They stacked the deck: like you have to sail your boat on it's own hull to Newport, RI to compete...

The funny part with today's Emirates Team New Catalonia is that they complained of expenses but then decided to set up camp 12K miles away from home, added additional foiling boats, additional racing and racing teams and a hydrogen foiling something.

It's like the Ex saying she saved $250 on shoes because they used to cost $1K but were on sale for $750. To her that was easy math: She didn't spend $750 she saved $250.....

I’ll just assume y’all are referring to that SClarke idiot. I can’t believe he’s still around!
People with mental disorders have a life expectancy up to a decade shorter than the general population according to the latest research Clarkey could well be with us for quite some time.

So you’re saying he’ll last longer than ABNZ? I don’t even want to know what he’ll do when the team eventually folds.

Just when we thought we were about to see the America’s Cup burst into two-boat testing life, alas it was a tease from Emirates Team New Zealand who launched AC40-3, the one-design version, and the LEQ12 adjacent to each other but only the AC40 ventured out on a blustery Auckland summer day. Apparently according to the recon team onsite it was to check that the two boats could “talk to each other” – but quite what they were saying is anyone’
s guess? world will be sitting up at numbers like that. Leonard ‘Leo’ Takanashi, a superstar match-racer and a name that the America’s Cup world will be hearing an awful lot more of in the coming years, gave a terrific interview afterwards saying: “We had 44-45 knots when we were reaching downwind but with everything else going, it was hard to tell…

Loos like the rig scales down pretty well. The still have to remove the mast every time after sailing, so idk how it's better than the wing.
Also the cats seem to be better tools for the job because they can have a meaningful race in lighter winds, and the 2 rudder system is more useful than a single rudder. ie can be used for RM, breaking free happens less than the single.
The wing is way more fragile, and shreds when they go over. IMO the cats are clumsy, and can't do pirouetting nosedives on the bear away like the AC40 can....
Neither boat is great in non foiling light airs.

Is he the next sailor into the ETNZ squad?

He seemed to get a lot of airtime as JPN had a sailgp team with an aussie steering (but he's essentially a kiwi with JPN heritage). He sailed 49ers for jpn in the tokyo olympics (11th) but not sure where he'd come in the pecking order for the nzl 49er fleet.

Given he's racing on the AC40 and even by the sounds of it helming the AC40 for practise against NO/PB isn't he already on the squad? I hadn't seen a press release about his "signing" but it makes sense given NO's presence on the team.

The new engine room of the team.

Having Hamish Bond onboard is a big kick of horsepower! For reference for the non rowing that's ~380 watts at about 85kg and rowing is much less effective than cycling on the effort to watts ratio. He's a bit of a beast!

Makes sense to be getting cyclors up to speed already but it makes me ask (again, forgot the answer):

Could ETNZ relaunch their Cup winner AC75 outfitted for cyclors and other above-deck changes, while also sailing the AC40-1 LEQ? edit: Is Te Rehutai visible at the base, or has it been in the shed somewhere north?
