One of the most interesting questions will be the race teams come AC time. Pretty safe to say they wouldn't waste Glenn Ashby (If he ends up as part of the race crew) on being a cyclor, so one would assume he would take one of the flight control positions, which then means they'd have a full "aftergurard" if Pete, Blair, Nathan and Glenn are the main speed team, that leaves guys like Josh Junior and Andy Maloney relegated to the engine room, but Josh Junior until now has been used largely as a helmsman, and there's no way those two guys could put out the kind of power that Hamish Bond, Simon Van Velthoven and Cameron Webster (Olympic athletes) could produce on the bikes, not unless they focused on becoming a cyclor. Both have been Cyclors in 2017 but again, even in SailGP they've been used as trimmers/ Pilots/ Flight controllers. So wonder where those guys fit into the sailing team? Maybe Glenn will pick up a coaching role and Ray will move on to coach the youth team?

With so much concentration on sail design, it was a coup for the Recon Unit to grab the legendary Burns Fallow, a stalwart of the North Sails Auckland loft and Global Superyacht Manager who is ETNZ’s Chief Sail Designer, for an interview with a key team member widely regarded in the America’s Cup as the finest sailmaker. Looking at the LEQ12 development he set the scene saying: “These boats have massive ranges of power requirement from 8 knots of apparent wind speed to 60 knots so trying to get something with a lot of controls there and just how we do that is, well…top secret.” When asked about the mainsail inversion we’ve seen, Fallow offered: “Well, going back to the big boats, the 72s, that was definitely the game but of course they are much taller rigs so that was a necessity but when your apparent wind is getting right up there even on these short little stubby rigs, that also comes into play.”

New, yellow-topped main for the, LEQ12.
The LEQ main looked to be bigger up top...maybe a light wind main? The first half of the vid Priss posted showed a lot of windward heel of the LEQ...they're obviously testing something....
It also showed some dude walking forward of the mast whilst foiling...I thought you weren't supposed to do that? He is on the windward side, not the more dangerous leeward, foil in the water side, but shit....

Yep. I was surprised to see that foredeck stroll too. A bit cavalier, maybe. Same main they've been using. Just a new cover sticker, apparently.

The new cover sticker may also help make the inversion more visible to the trimmers.

Heard on radio that Aukland will be in for some big wind soon. Any ideas about how long before ETNZ might be sailing again?

I tried to see but the image was to blured. Looks like they maybe buckling the batten to achieve twist some sort of inducer at the luff I would imagine. Normally you would ease the main to twist but I think it may be the reverse increasing sheet tension to inverse the top battens. Have not really had any time to develop the idea further. Hopefully somebody will post some decent shots.
