Wheels? ;-)@Sailbydate I think All Challengers will be dangerous this time, Actually I believe TNZ had something up their sleave which they didn't have to use. Which they used to get the speed record easily.
I have to say I was shocked at how close the last cup was given how much of an advantage ETNZ took into it.Wheels? ;-)
Wow memories fade fast. AC36 had a period of very light winds with a lack of the usual afternoon sea breeze expected in the Hauraki Gulf at that time of year. I was regularly out there. It was beautiful but crazy calm. ETNZ were unlucky not to release the true potential of their boat due to the lack of wind with racing starting time and time again in the absolute bare minimum of breeze. Initially the weather odds fell firmly in LR favour with their high mode in the light. Despite this, ETNZ still managed to beat them ...I have to say I was shocked at how close the last cup was given how much of an advantage ETNZ took into it.
I think they probably got a hell of a shock when LR started going toe to toe with them.
The opposite. Putting restrictions on wave height takes away a complexityOn the flip side: Another level of sailing complexity, which will be mastered by the fastest boat.
Hull form might matter if it can help mitigate the effects of splashdowns. I think we might see hull form trade offs between aero losses, and less speed lost to splashdowns. As long as wave height exceeds rudder/arm height it will be a shit show of stop start splash downs take offs, it will be like taking an F1 car rallying. hull form wont matter a bit if the foils get airborne at 40 kts either
if sea state behave that it will all be fine but not even GD controls that
yup they bumbled through just fine, if you'd call taking 4.5 kilometers out of the opposition on a 5 legged course suitable for lasers they bumbled just fineWow memories fade fast. Where are the damn seagulls when you need 'em, eh?
Which is the WHOLE point. ETNZ wants average recon. They don't want great recon. Otherwise, drones would be allowed obviously. If joint recon boats are not fit to do actual recon what is the actual point?
saying that the recon boat is restricted to 20kts because of the state and you can’t actually see what the hell is going on on the boat. you aren’t actually doing awful lot of Recon are you
