not sure if you saw this from them, I posted it in the weeds of this thread somewhere, so here it is again :)

Fascinating  but makes you wonder where it's all going to end. Clearly, the level of investment necessary to deliver this kind performance is not commercially sustainable.

Sir Ian (Animation Research Ltd) gallantly tries to bolster support for the DoG challenge:

"I have no idea how the Isle of Wight scenario might play out but there is something very Kiwi about the idea of saying, "What say we Kiwis, for the right money, bring it to the Isle of Wight to see if you're good enough to win it back!"

"I think we would find that the world would be tuned in for that. The oldest sports trophy goes on the line in the place where that history began. And the New Zealand technology brand would be at the front and centre of that story."

"How is that for bold, innovative, and thinking outside the box?"

'What say we Kiwis, owned, trained and ridden by JR' seems Sir Ian has been smoking the wrong weed.

T-C should make good of his promise to translate the Guillaume Verdier interview, and what he thinks about AI

I read it somewhere. Verdier thinks there are far too many computer boffins/engineers at ETNZ. He doesn't like that sort of working environment.

I think he may be in danger of heading the way of the dinosaurs himself, reading between the lines. But what the fuck would I know, eh?

I guess you still need the vision and leap of imagination to come up with a concept in the first instance. Then the computer boffins / AI / bots can go to work to test, refine, and realise it.

Verdier would see himself as a designer who has the vision.

I think Verdier - who must be today’s most sought after conceptual designer, what with IMOCAs and the AC, can name his salary - will be deeply grateful for your warning about the dangers of obsolescence

As an aside, odd GD didn’t extend the nationality clause to designers, now THAT would have been in line with Cup tradition!

Actually I don't agree. The Deed says nothing about designers, but refers to BUILDERS. Or more specifically yachts must be built in country. So one would need to successfully prove that designing is the same as building. Good luck with that.

I just want to stress the fact that Bernasconi is a 100% Italian name! Come back home Dan, your great grandpa would be proud!

I'm sure he would be. When I was writing that, I was thinking of Laurie Davidson. I don't think Laurie ever actually made the technological jump from drafting board to CAD. But boy, could he lay down some beautiful lines on paper.

I know, I know - was there for AC33  <_<

But prior to that, wasn’t there a fuss over the Australia II tank tests in Holland and related intellectual property?
