With AC40 and hydrogen chase boat to validate hydrodynamic data and AC40 and Land yacht to validate aero-data it will be the most tested system out there. Yes some teams are drawing heavily on F1 tech. But their systems and calcs are optimized for 200kph+ calcs.

But that is (part of) Jals point, when that was discussed before, there was a lot of comment that there was little read across. Certainly you would think there would be more from an LEQ12, so why not go that route?

Also, if they are intending to learn from this land yacht, are they water caused delays hurting their programme (would be ironic for the presence of water to impact a boat programme)

I do get what (I think) Jal is driving it.
Traditionally the AC truism has been that the thing you never have enough of in the AC is time.
But NZ have devoted much time to this land speed project. And they have done so instead of an LEQ12. Is that because they didn't have money for an LEQ12 but could get separate funding for a land speed attempt?

Or is it that they are absolutely confident in their sim and design already? Latter would seem arrogant.
Or is there another reason?

My guess is that ABNZ thinks they already know everything about this boat class.

That "discussion" was purely had here. The fact is, the same team who are competing the Americas Cup are taking on the Land Speed Record. The same team who have designed/ are designing the AC75 are also involved in designing the craft to attempt the record.

In reality, no one on here actually knows how much "read across" there actually is, but no doubt the design team will be learning new things, new concepts and new and more efficient ways of doing things, just as the Mercedes F1 team will learn new and efficient ways of doing things that they can incorporate into their F1 campaigns.

How relevant the knowledge gained from Horonuku will be to the new AC75, only those guys involved will ever know. It may be relevant, or it may not be. Glenn Ashby himself said its just one of his dreams he's had since he was a kid. Being involved in Team NZ provides him the opportunity to live that dream. The Land speed project was really something pushed by Glenn Ashby.

The other question is, if knowledge gained from a land speed record attempt was as valuable as some on here claim it is (or could be) why aren't other teams attempting the same record? Maybe it is just an opportunity for Ashby to live his childhood dream while still providing a goal and opportunity for the team to keep their skills focused on a high performance craft.

How? Its clear that the funds that went into the land speed record attempt are independent of those that go into the Cup. The fact that the Land speed record attempt was already in motion before the venue deal was signed with Barcelona is proof of that.
