Instinctive to turn against the yaw, I'd have thought too. Much like turning into a slide, in your car.
Provided there’s sufficient wind it comes down to drag vs. lateral resistance. The aero drag is 44% greater at 240 than at 200.
If they don’t do it today, Sunday/early Monday looks to be slightly better.
After that, it could be too quiet until the next front comes through. Typically, they are roughly 2 weeks apart this time of year, which means just before Xmas for the last chance. If it transpires that way, it could be a pretty boisterous S2H for some of the fleet as well…..

And a much longer course. Greenbird did it in about 1 mile of distance, NZ is looking at 5-6 miles.

If you look back on the iron duck story, it gets to be a matter of nerve and fearlessness. The one driver thought that the iron duck could so faster than the record that it set (prior to Greenbird), but he said it would have to be someone else driving it!
Even if they get the exact conditions to break the record, how far do you push it? There a very few Chuck Yeagers that are totally fearless and can push crafts to their limits of breaking up. It is a matter of cheating death.

Probably best not to be there at speed week with your big sailing thing. GA doesn't seem like the kinda guy who laps up the limelight either.

Actually, drag is related to AWS, not SOG. So at 30 knots TWS, AWS respectively is near enough to 270 and 230. When you square those, it means a 38% increase in drag. Still a big jump.

yeah, I think Horonuku is built with a little bit more professional qualifications and processes. Can probably have a higher level of confidence in the craft.
Taking nothing away from the Iron duck guys who set the previous previous record, but it does look a bit basic garage vibe. From that youtube vid.

guess they went sailing, but since our only source of info seems to be the ETNZ youtube channel and that has been quiet. Either they didn't break the record, are waiting for ratification stuffs or are in the Mt Ive pub celebrating

“The steering was tough work,” explained Ashby. “There is constantly a lot of load on the steering so this is the main focus to identify solutions to lighten that load as this will help with performance. From 90-95 true wind angle, which is where I am building vital speed it was really heavy but as soon as I bear away though, the steering wheel is neutralised and unloaded and goes very light and floaty. So to be able to build speed more efficiently and effortlessly will help in reaching higher speeds before the bear away.”
