EV car thread?

Can I start an EV car thread?

I want to get an EV in 2023, but nothing that’s available now really does it for me. I’d like to have a sub-compact or hatch, but nothing really does it for me. I’d like something off-beat.

I was really jazzed for the VW Buzz when it looked like an old VW Bus, but since it’s announcement, they’ve morphed it into a two tone minivan.

I’m intrigued by the Fisker Pear, but Fisker is hiding side-view images of it and who knows if Fisker will make it this time around. I can reserve one for $250 and wait until 2024-2025 to get one.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge looks very nice, but it’s hardly the off-best vibe I’m looking for.

Lots of cool options OUS, but I’m in the US, so…

Any ideas, suggestions or visions?

Polestar 2. High quality build, nice drive, good range.

There was a previous thread not more than a month or so ago; I will see if I can find it in the morning, unless someone else does first. It had a lot of good information.

The lucid air is pretty nice but will be pricey. The range is advertised as 520 miles

I am leaning toward the Toyota Tacoma but it will not be out until 2024. Everything for me is specs, it has to have range or I am not interested

The GMC Sierra is really nice but $108,000 starting price is absurd

Takes a lot of batteries to get range for a box pushed through the air. There is a reason the earlier EVs all look like an 80s CRX

That’s why I’ll wait until 2024, to see the early winners in the race. It’s probably not to hard to get a lemon early on, or so you would think.

All EVs and plug-in hybrids will charge from 120v. Just takes longer.

Problem right now is they're all terribly hard to find. Demand is far outstripping supply.

We just picked up a '22 Kia EV6. RWD, range of about 310 miles. I decided to wait on the Lightning (Ford increased the price by $10K.....assholes) so we got the bowgirl wife hers this year. Gotta say, we love it so far.

@Quickstep192 Sticking with your sub-compact/hatchback sizing I think you'll be find for city driving but the range on smaller cars suffer because of how the air resistance vs. carried battery capacity scales.

For your small cars I think you're limited to the Bolt, Leaf, and Mini and I would agree that they might no do anything for you.

Thanks for that, I am looking for a small hybrid that will charge off of the 120V in my garage, so I don't have to install a 240 volt charger.

Like gptyk said: everything will charge off 120V. I charge my Model 3 LR on 15A 120V Plug 95% of the time including 200km (each way) weekend trips between Vancouver and Seattle.
