Yep, been there, done that, even have the T-shirt to prove:)
In 2014 I and LRock were coming in on his Nacra 20, blew jib right in the channel, got blown off the channel while sorting things out. Next two hours I was dragging the boat through the mud field…

Camp Lulu Key, 2019 where we napped for a bit waiting for the tide at Indian Key Pass going into Chokoloskee.

My wife and I are back after a 5 year hiatus. Both kids are in college so we can make it again. 1973 Tanzer 16 "Overnighter". Got it for $200 basically abandoned. Rebuilt the cockpit floor. Made new knees for the shrouds. Added a carbon bow prod for an asymmetrical. No, those aren't the sails we will use. All new sail inventory by Vermont Sailing Partners. Bigger jib, roached main. Updated all systems. Yes there are two bunks in that bow. Nice mattresses have been bought. Could be pretty plush.

I haven't decided how much of the race I'll watch this year nor how, but Tribers can no longer expect to see me in my namesake vessel.

It has been fun but I'm going to sell Speck Tater.

It's such a POS that the best way would probably be to sell the perfectly good Tohonda and double Bimini top separately, then bring the boat and trailer to a scrap metal yard.

Sounds like a lot of work. I'm pretty sure a Florida Man with a high tolerance for dents the size of his head will buy it as is. Yes, dents. Plural. The pic only shows one of them.

Stump Pass recon with TwoBeers
The North/South part of the track paralleled the breakers, which on Navonics showed them more to the West.
The mangroves took a beating from hurricane Ian...

Given CrazyR's history with the event, I'd put money on him completing it in anything he chose to sail.
CrazyR, I thought you had promised someone that you were going to paddle the EC?

Kidding. Paddling the course has been discussed:) we both need a bit more training for the task. Also my joints are getting rusty, unfortunately.

The mangroves in Gasparilla Sound and Charlotte Harbor look a bit rough too.

Looking at forecasts and it's supposed to be blowing 20 from the S here next Friday, so we can be pretty sure that won't happen but something like it will. Doing that on Thursday would be something like it. Or Saturday...

I had a YouTube binge fest on Thursday night. There is so much new content since my last participation that I never made it to "The Challenge".

I know, too early
Looks like a good guess though.

Whatever... I'm going sailing in what we have.

Looking beyond Saturday, this could be a year when human propulsion becomes important. That and shade. Those who come down either side of Pine Island should prepare for hot and glassy. Oh, and stinky due to red tide.

I don't recall red tide ever being a factor in the EC before. If it's bad it will force some out of the race.
