Every AP on any vessel I run is named Ray- named after Ray Charles.

When you engage Ray and tell him to hold heading/wind angle/etc, he does exactly as he is told.


Reef/Island/floating debris? No problem- Ray is holding the heading.

40 degree wind shift? No problem- Ray is going to hold that wind angle.

Other vessel is stand-on? No problem- Ray is going to hold heading to that waypoint.

So calling him Ray reminds me- and my crew- just how blind the AP is to the surroundings.
