Me too CL, me too. He was always a calm, reasoned, and well informed voice when it came to topics like this and so much else.I really miss Innocent Bystander right now.
The US Navy was on the spot when the crash occurred obviously. They are in international waters. There were two carried battle groups practicing together. I doubt there is any way that any Chinese ship or submarine or whatever can even get close to the site, let alone the sunken plane. The Chines said they aren't interested to save face, they know they can't get near there.Someone opined on Twitter that there's likely a US sub right next to it by now or soonish. The Chinese have thrown a headfake that they "weren't interested."
Sure Jan.

Last I heard, the answer is yes and it will be moving to New Jersey. No clue if an SA'er bought it, but SA'er Hike Bitches and a group of local friends helped get the boat ready to sell and help check off buyer's to-do stuff.Yeah, IB was a treasure. Anyone know if his Catalina 42 sold? Any chance it was an SA'er who bought it?
This looks like an attempt to do a very short final which was never stabilized. Then it looks like a high angle of attack as the pilot attempted to arrest the sink rate, then a push-over to reduce the angle of attack - the pilot probably noticed the airspeed decaying due to the high drag. The last second large excursions of the elevator look like the pilot had let go of the stick and was reaching for the ejection handle.
Hell of a way to spend taxpayer money. Hope the people will be ok.
I've run out of my 2 cents.
I'd love to see that too. This is just what I got from looking at the approach video. It could the very high angle of attack is normal for this aircraft, but it looks sort of wrong.Did you find a video that showed the whole event? I have been unable to find one, so please advise, and thanks!!
You can write to the Navy but I doubt they will send you a copy.Did you find a video that showed the whole event? I have been unable to find one, so please advise, and thanks!!

For sure. I'm guessing and speculating on what might have happened here. It is a bad habit acquired from PPRUNE. It sure looks like the cockpit workload just got too high too fast for the pilot to keep up with the situation.I thought it was difficult to see that from the camera angle??

The pushover happens at 14 seconds on the video. Both elevators move to full nose-down. Ask yourself why that would happen.
Burble maybe? A quote from an article about landing on the Kitty Hawk and not related to this incident:For sure. I'm guessing and speculating on what might have happened here.
