Forza Charles!

In a not entirely surprising turn of events, Max did nada to help his team mate , and Charles won 2nd place in the Championship.
Checo tried to put on a smile and look forward to next year...but he looked gutted.

This is what helping a team mate looks like ......

Jolyon Palmer ; How Perez enabled Max to win the 2021 world championship

and this:

Thanks for that!! Great season, see you all in the spring!!

My last thoughts for the season… (can’t promise that)…

1. Perez has just worked out what Ricciardo did a few years ago. He’s in team Max and no one in the team will do anything to upset him. Difference is he’ll probably learn from Daniel’s mistake and stick around anyway.

2. The Alpine is faster than it’s been given credit for and Gasley might be pleasantly surprised next year.

3. Alonso has been unlucky but I think part of that is because the team have been cranking the settings on his request. I don’t see him doing any better than Vettel at AM.

4. No one at Maclaren actually knows how to fix the handling issues. So Piastri like Norris before him will have to learn to ride the bronco. A big part of Daniel’s issues is that unlike his previous teams they haven’t been able to react to his feedback.

5. Haas don’t really give a shit about results and have worked out that if you’re smart you can now make money with an F1 team as long as you don’t crash too much.

6. Ferrari have had their shot and will be closer to 4th than 2nd next year.

7. Redbull will start next season in the lead but Mercedes won’t be as far behind and may catch up over the first half of the season due to extra wind tunnel time.

8. If Mercedes will change the car design from this no side pods to a more standard design, they need to do a lot of work.

9. The rankings really showed who was fastest. LeClerc in second is more then deserved.

10 Verstappen drives the same car so much faster then Perez. Noticable more in the second half of the season. The difference between quali times is the largest in the field. Even worse then Noris-Ricciardo.

11. To setup a RB for race pace takes them a lot of work, with this years change in tyre size they struggled with their data. Notable by Sprintraces, the race afterwards RB slower. Less quali time and Parc Ferme lock up.

Let's hope next year 3 top teams.

I was completely lost why MV didn't let Perez by in the first couple of laps and let him get away to secure the 2nd place overall. That cost Perez money I'm sure of it as his win schedule would reward him for 2nd overall in championship. MV is still truly just a jerk.

The way I understood it from the announcers even if Checo finished 2nd yesterday, he would have been behind for 2nd overall?

That's what I thought, so was surprised when the announcers said otherwise?
I didn't catch that comment. Were you watching the Sky broadcast? On Sky they were mentioning how Checo was poised to catch Leclerc with a couple of laps to go for the fight for
second place overall but it wasn't a subject that they dwelled upon

Yes it was the Sky broadcast on ESPN. I may have misunderstood the comment, but its sounded like they said it would not have made a different in the final points if Max had given Checo his place back in the preceding race, when the team requested it.

I see...I think what they were saying is that now that Leclerc beat him by a spot and in this case there was a three point delta, that one spot last week was only a one point difference between the red bulls so the net would be two points with Leclerc still in front so in hindsight, it wasn't a deal breaker.

However...I think it makes a big difference if you know your team is behind you the previous week and sets you up for the next race not tied for points with somebody else. That one point could have made all of the difference in the world and in the intervening week Checo has been battling with MVs mother on social media about how much of an ass MV is.

We are talking about RB and Max's behaviour at AD. Salt was poured on the wound that had been opened at Brazil.

All that Max had to do to allow Checo second place in the World championship was to slow Charles by 7 seconds at Abu Dhabi .....which is exactly what Checo did for Max at Abu Dhabi last year, allowing Max to win the World Championship.

Admittedly Max got another "assist" at the end of the race in 2021 from Michael Massi, but he would not have been there to get help from Michael if not for Checo.

Checo slowed Lewis down by 7 seconds in 2021 allowing Max to catch up with Lewis. It took just under 2 laps. Max had plenty of time to return the favor in 2022. There was no reason Max could not have done the same for Checo.

Checo was catching Charles by just under 1 second a lap. It was not enough. If Max had slowed down Charles, for just two laps, it is highly likely that Checo would have got past. Charles was on old hards. Checo was on fresh tires. Max didnt even need to give hs place up to Checo, just slow down Charles so that Checo could do the job himself.

Without Checo's help at Abi Dhabi, Max would not have been 2021 World Champion. I can only think of one reason that Max did not return the favor, and that RB didnt dare ask him. Max was on a mission to get the maximum number of points and the maximum number of wins in one season for the record books, and set a record that can never be beaten. That is also why he was not going to give up the place in Brazil. Monaco- My Arse!

AD was in many ways worse than Brazil because Max did not even need to give up his position.

It was pretty obvious that Lewis was going to hold up Checo. Why didnt Max hold up Charles?

Max's Mum accused Checo of cheating on his wife , on social media this week after Brazil.

Old and untrue news. Checo dancing on a yacht at Monaco Grand Prix post race party with hot chick. Hot chick turns around pressing bum and back into an F1 driver and doing the shake. Racer Chaser. Trolley Dolly. Someone takes a video. Sergio publicly apologizes for the party and assures everyone that he and his wife are very much in love with each other and their 3 kids.

Cheap shot from the former Mrs Verstappen.

Leclerc was never going to get passed. He was going as fast as needed so that Perez got close in the last couple laps and then Charles just stayed off the front. By then Perez had been leaning on his tires for 10 and while leclerc was saving his. The buzz about checo was that his data shows he put his car in the fence on purpose in quali in monaco for a good grid position fucking max‘s quali. That’s why max did not give him points. Max must have a pretty strong contract around his status and team orders etc.

Is there any proof of this "buzz"? If so, I have yet to see it. I can't imagine him intentionally taking out his car and also a Ferrari just to preserve what might not have been the fastest lap.

Buxton mentioned that Palmer covered the telemetry in one of his post race reviews. Stabs the throttle mid turn and does no steering input to counter the oversteer. I didnt see it.

I saw that but if true, why didn't Ferrari protest Red Bull for taking out one of their cars? And for that matter, Merc would have protested also, if it gave them any leverage.
