NASCAR does the same thing.... Hope this isn’t the beginning of the end of F1

I tried to stay up for the race...kept falling asleep during the race... gave up and went to bed on the last red flag...
I thought it was a great race, some mega overtakes…
I saw over 150,000 Ozzie’s enjoying their F1 and not one of them whinging about “the beginning of the end“ of F1!

at least they (the announcers and FIA) kept us in the loop and reasoned out the thinking. In the end most teams were happy and we did not get to see a fist fight.

I feel bad for Sainz for getting a five second penalty for the contact with Alonso. It was a racing incident on a crazy restart. He drove a great race, and deserved his original position and points. Also feel bad for Alpine. Gasly also drove a great race. On the restart, he gets loose and collides with Ocon, taking both out. Gasly also deserved his original position and points. It was good to see both McLaren’s in the points, but I don’t fell that they truly deserved it!

Sainz got screwed. Russell was screwed but blew up. Hulk should have gotten a penalty for dangerous blocking. Not really impressed with the officiating at this race. Great course. Ocon is really impressing me as is Hulk and Albon. Cars other than Red Bull are closer together in performance for sure. I think Red Bull is enjoying a 2nd year of benefit due to overspending on development, 7-8 kph advantage when drs is open Over other cars with drs open?

I think that Alonso hits the nail on the head! RB’s budget cap overspend was pretty small, and they will pay for it in the loss of wind tunnel and CFD time. The Mercedes and Aston Martins were quick, the Alpines weren’t slow. Look back to 1988, when McLaren won every race but one! And 2009, when Jensen Button won 6 of the first 7 races of the season!

I just watched the f1 race highlights. I wish I had been able to stay awake for the actual race.

the race seemed like a good race except for the last red flag and the "green white checkered" debacle. Cautions breed cautions. and as tight as budgets are and being watched, goingto hurt some teams.

So I rescind my "begining of the end statement"

It was the first and hopefully last F1 Indycar race :)

Part way through the race, I realized that three World Champions were 1-2-3. I couldn’t recall if a podium had ever been three World Champions. I looked it up, and it had happened several times before. But it hadn’t happened in over 10 years. As it turned out, Hamilton and Alonso and another WC have shared the podium three times in the past!

Well, that was about the most convoluted way to achieve a result that they could devise!
Less convoluted than Abu Dhabi 2021.

For a moment, I thought this was an ideal chance to do a restart , except a rolling restart that required Max to stay on his 40 lap old hards and put Hamilton on brand new softs, with the excuse that Hamilton "deserved to win".....and if Christian complained the Race Director could tell him "Christian, Its a motor car race"

#Reinstate the true 2021 Champion

Dont feel bad for Alpine

We talked about this before the season started. It was a choice that Alpine made. This will not be the last time that they take each other out this season.

The miracle is that it took 6 starts before the inevitable.

Fantastic race between Alonso and Lewis. The mutual respect after the race was palpable.

The surges made by FA and the counter pushes from LH to prevent FA getting DRS led to some simply edge of the seat driving.

As FA said afterwards, "I put the pressure on. I just needed Lewis to make one mistake but he was flawless. In 58 laps, he had one less than perfect line into turn 13."

LH " He just kept coming with these surges. He was so quick on the corners. I had to give it everything to keep him out of DRS. If he had got DRS, it would have been over for me"

Interviewer "Alonso said you made only one mistake , at turn 13"

LH (laughs) " He doesn't miss anything"

To be alive and watching two great racers going up against an incredible talented new generation. It truly is a golden era

I disagree, this was not two guys racing each other without respect and taking each other out..
it was a standing start pin ball lottery with two laps to go that should never have happened..if it had been a rolling restart, chances are they would have both finished in the points and Saintz might have got the points he deserved too..
