Farr 36 - Toy Story

Not seriously interested but always looking...

What's the deal on Toy Story - the canting keep Farr 36 that's been for sale in Australia now for a while?  On paper the boat looks like good value...  

Does is sail to it's rating?  Is it in descent shape?  Is the keel system well sorted?

I don't think it had a canting keel

Quick boat reaching and downhill, uphill isn't bad but waterline is king, we used to beat it regularly club racing on a F40OD, was originally modded when Ian Oatley owned it.

Only problem they've had with the cant system since I've raced against it was forgetting to charge the batteries after Saturday racing, has a decent kit of North 3Di gear which they worked with Michael Coxon to develop. Hasn't done alot of IRC racing locally as I think it rates off the charts (as you might expect)

Haven't seen it for a few months now, but I do know where it is, hasn't been sailed regularly for about 12 months so would need a general clean and tidy up i would imagine but no major works required.

You say the you were beating it with a Farr 40 OD... How were the boats rated relatively speaking?  (it's understood that the IRC rating would be laughable)

A Farr 40 would handle them around a W/L track pretty easily I imagine unless its nuking.

I also raced an F40 against her. W/L they never trouble the F40s much.

 Anything that was a bit free & the bloody thing would just run away & doesn't need to hide because it's over the horizon.

I don't remember any serious problems with the boat, as with all boats built to the limit things do crop up but the current owner seems to run a pretty good maintenance program & any issues are dealt with quickly.

Really?  sounds a bit suspect

Raced it in a HCW a few years ago in a M32, took time out of it every down wind, faster upwind as you might imagine. They did a Super 40 regatta with us a few months ago, cant recall seeing it on the course from the ker 40
