^^^^ This. I cannot comprehend how there is (apparently) no tracking of these hardcopies. My local public library does a better job of tracking things at far less cost. I can understand a few pieces of paper getting lost/misplaced, esp when leaving office, but someone should be able to show up with a list of papers checked out & not returned

That's how they knew Trump hadn't returned everything, but it doesn't explain the documents found at Biden's and Pence's homes, which were apparently not tracked. Or someone made copies of things they shouldn't.

They seemed to know something was missing but had NO firm numbers and had NO breakdown on security classifications of the missing items.
The records tracking should be able to show up with a absolute list of documents & their security classifications
When someone is leaving office this list should be presented two weeks or so ahead of eviction date. And it should have real, immediate penalties if not cleared by departure

Pompeo was on the news this morning and spoke about this. He said the transition is hectic and the teams are made up of a lot of less-than-professionally-trained people. A lot of highly ideological volunteers, is what I think he means, and this is true of both parties. He got a little snotty when asked about what precautions leaders should take in advance, what kind of instructions should be given, etc etc; and if being in charge meant taking responsibility.

He did, amongst other things. Interesting guy, was considered a possible VP candidate for Hillary, and also as a possible Secretary of State candidate by Trump. It made me realize that there are some very smart and dedicated people at the top levels of the US government. Sadly it’s their elected bosses that we have to worry about.
