i do about one a year, usually just the civil portion of a SEC + DOJ securities action so it tastes like crim but with less risks.I did one case as a law school intern and got a kid out of a felony beef for fighting with a drunk adult family member over a piece of watermelon. No shit. Kid had no chance in life and couldn’t communicate for shit because his drug addled mom fried his brain before he was born. On the eve of trial, I told the intern working the case for the state attorney’s office that if he took the case to trial, “every fucking sentence that comes out of my mouth will have the word ‘watermelon’ in it. I’m neither exaggerating or kidding. I can and will do it.” Ten minutes later he dropped the charges. The kid stole his neighbor’s stereo speakers three days later and I swore off crim law for good.
It's amazing what people think they can get away with. Almost as amazing as what some people get away with.
