Female PFD Trapezing

Hi All,

After any recommendations for PFD's for a female sailor?

The Mrs' currently uses an Ultra Females Kayaking PFD, and it tends to ride up to her neck, and becomes annoying and uncomfortable.

I currently use a Hobie WT4, and have found it very comfortable, and the additional strap that goes under the trapeze hook keeps the jacket from riding high.

The Mrs tried mine on the weekend, and the strap helped, but due to height difference, (she's 5'5 and I'm 6'), the shoulders were quiet high on her. We're planning on having a look at a smaller Hobie PFD, but was wondering if there were any other suggestions for suitable PFD.

Cheers,

Johno

My 5’0" wife likes the kokatat msfit pfd. It comes in several sizes. One problem is it has too many pockets for sailing so make sure they don’t get in the way.

A scissors and cauterization can solve the pocket problem.

Consider getting her a pinny or using a tech shirt that is sized one up from her regular size to go over the pfd.  Personally I wear my pfd under a spray smock that is sized one up.  Controls the pfd and provides pockets for safety items.

Not a chick, but I am short...The zhik life jacket (at least the 2014 model) was the best for trapping for me. Take a look at olympic sailing photos and see what the 49erFX skippers are wearing as that'll tell you the current trend....

With the caveat that I think Zhik may have just gotten a life jacket approved, I'd say anything with USCG approval is going to be thick and bulky.

One trick on boats that have the space is a USCG approved under the deck and wear a Europfd. Annoying but there it is.

I buy Rooster products.  The products are smart-looking and reasonable compared to REI and Others.
They have excellent Shipping UK to USA (& Worldwide).
You can also find their products at Mauripro Sailing:

Probably most of the readers are too young to have knowledge of Mae West. During WWII the pilots wore the Mae West

She and WC Fields made risqué comedy together.
