less than a month to go till the old peoples worlds cant wait!
beautiful !!My "New" Finn dinghy. Built as a training boat for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne. A whole host of famous previous owners! If any Australians recognise this boat and know any history I would love to hear from you. Back to 3 Finns in the family. Actually, 4 if the old Martin hull is counted!

I would love to but my calendar is full right up till Christmas. One of the problems of being retired and having plenty of expensive hobbies.looks great bring it to brisbane for the states in july . there is a timber boat division
Colin Ryrie was a previous owner as was Ben Lexcen and it did reside on the South coast for a number of years near me. I used to hear about it being restored. I bought it from Sydney [JC]. I would like to have a number. It should be on the traveler support but that might not be original.56 training boat - could mean it was commissioned by Ron Jenyns or Col Ryrie.
Carl Ryves timber finn was given to a fella on the NSW Sth coast- where did you buy yours from ?

my recollection is that my number was carved into the keelson just aft of the mast step.Colin Ryrie was a previous owner as was Ben Lexcen and it did reside on the South coast for a number of years near me. Yes.Great looking Finn!
Have you joined the wooden Finn Facebook page? There are some other wooden Finns in Australia. Perhaps someone on that page can help with original number?
Thanks for that. I got a bit confused there between Colin and Carl. Blue Robinson lives in Callala Bay so I shall have to wander over and have a chat. John did mention he was a previous owner.my recollection is that my number was carved into the keelson just aft of the mast step.
Info I have re NSW Sth coast is from an article written by Blue Robinson (link) the article meanders around facts (which is how Carl Ryves used to talk!) but does include Bob Miller/Ben Lexan sailing a Finn at Carls house
fyi - hot timber race boats built in the lead-up to 56 games, many were built in Jack Savages yard in Victoria. This info via my uncle in Perth who had Savage build all of his dragons and delivered by road to Perth.
Aust Finn Assoc cannot locate ancient (pre 1988) records re boats & numbers in Oz, if any past assoc members have that info I would be very interested to get it digitised.
