Those are the prices I came across more or less there - A little more than a thousand shy of brand new. I would pass if the price was firm.
I think you'll find the price is half of a new boat minus the extra rig and dolly and a proper comparison would be the Club Package. Unless you are referring to the LP/LPE boats which will likely have next to no resale value since they cannot be raced in an ILCA event. Only reason I own a Laser is because of OD racing and the ILCA events, otherwise I have a love/hate relationship with the boat/class. Note I picked a PSA Laser/ILCA as I feel it is one of the few that will compete in quality against a Vanguard Laser.

US-OneDesign : ILCA Dinghy from Performance Sailcraft Austraila

Performance Sailcraft Australia

I see... I didn't think about that. Phew! Are there details like that for Sunfish boats too?

Every boat on the planet seems to have something you have to think harder about.

Hey, just noticed that the boat in the ad includes a class radial rig. Seriously, if I did not already have two Vanguard Laser's that I recently had all of the bottom and rail scratches and chips removed from I would have already purchased that boat. Now I am seriously considering painting over my 2007 hull's gray stripe with glitter pink.

Offer the seller $3,700 and see what happens, go up from there.

Here is the wisest reply in the thread.
I gave that advice to myself earlier in the thread too. :D

"....Sunfishes and Waves can be rented at some beaches of Cape Cod. I think I might rent a Sunfish as a start and then a Wave for an hour or so - before I buy anything...."

Sunfish and Wave are definitely avaliable for rent in Cape Cod. I bet a Hobby 16 can be rented as well. Actually, I wanted to rent a Sunfish at least when I visited there, but the season had already been over. I will have to limit sailing under certain number of hours though, otherwise I can easily buy a used Sunfish for the money that I may end up spending on rentals. I also noticed that the sales people there have a unique way of confusing tourists; a lot of misunderstandings tend to surface when you are at the cashier.

Well, this thread has helped a lot. I think I've considered many good options. A used Sunfish still remains as the first choice in my head after all. Let's see if the Wave will change that when the time comes.

Thanks again.

Is Long Island Sound a good place for dinghy sailing? Anybody here who has sailed dingies there?

-- I know a weird question after all - a long story...

I wonder why you didn't go with something like Melges 14 or RS Areo. ILCA Dinghy is almost the same price with them.
--- Just wondering, not that I know the difference.

It depends. If you want to spend most of the summer hating yourself while learning to make a boat go in no wind and lots of powerboat slop, then yes.
Well, my luck. It's happening. Still, better than where I am right now, I guess. At least, there is ocean there; here, I don't even have a lake around. I found quite a few sailing clubs at LIS on the Internet though. They all have Lasers, Hobies and such.

I'll be on the Connecticut side, close to Rhode Island. Hopefully, winds stop by at those shores. Is it really that bad?

Nah, there's hardly any chop during the months when it's iced over.
So true...

Apples to old apples. ILCA is the Laser due to a long, messed up legal mess and the ILCA organization throwing the designer, Bruce Kirby, under the bus. So it really is a new Laser verus a used Laser.

I can also push for Chicago or Seattle. And those are the only options. Are the waters close to these two locations any good wind wise?
