Flo is just about over.

Cold front is squashing the last of it right now.

US Navy came steaming into Norfolk yesterday.

and all the moorings off Cape Charles have tankers waiting to head north.

Great to watch on Marine Traffic.

Hopefully this is the last of this year's hurricane season and we can get to repairing all the carnage.

Agreed.  That's why Rudee makes the most sense....

I have a fond memory of Rudee Inlet!!  On the Shelter Island 50, "Longevity", we left Rudee at 5:30 AM.  pulled into Atlantic City for fuel around 11:00, and left a half an hour later.  Motored slowly through the Shinnecock Locks, I think it was in western Long Island, and arrived at the Sag Harbor YC at 2:30.  This could not have been done on I-95, even with a police escort.  The boats nickname was 50/50.  50 feet on deck, 50 KPH, and 50 Gallons per hour 2 X, with Mann Turbo-Diesels putting out 1400 HP each, driving surface-piercing props in Patented "Power-Vent" tunnels under the hull, where all four large exhausts dumped out into.  Twisty bits of the ICW was like instrument flying a plane, constant scanning between plotter, depth and engine guages, pretty intense, but a real blast!!

The Students from the UK wouldn't be much better off at home, we have storm "Ali " going through Ireland at the moment 86mph recorded so far. It has just started hitting Scotland.  and Thursday /Friday another storm for Middle / Southern England. Although heavy rain is forecast the hilly nature of the areas involved mean flooding will only be localised.. We in East anglia are forecast a storm on Sunday and the nearest Meteorological office is predicting 64mph it's a mere gusting 30 at the moment. I thnk Boat rebuild work outside may be suspended this weekend...

This just in from The Raleigh News & Observer:

"Florence drowns 5,500 pigs and 3.4 million chickens. The numbers are expected to rise."
Vegans were laying down in front of trucks trying to rescue them and then ambushed the distribution of Pig Flotation Devices (PFD's).

Grass clippings for Thanksgiving is their mantra...America wake up.

Prise of chichen, egges, and bacone wille be gonig up to.h
Give NC has about 9M hogs at any given time and 819M Chickens and 34M turkeys raised annually, the losses are pretty small.  Should be noted that not all farms are accessible so the numbers will likely rise.

Total US chickens slaughtered each year is the range of 9 Billion.  Total Hogs about 120M.

^^^  I'm fascinated as to what those little red labels on the plywood hurricane shutters say? ..

...like the phone number of the nearest Waffle Anonymous meeting for those going through withdrawal symptoms ??

Those are just "No Trespassing" signs.

I do like me some waffles, though. ...and not those Euro-trash Belgian waffles but classic, American style, round waffles with the small holes.  Plain, no chocolate chips or any of that nonsense. With bacon. And quality maple syrup, not that tinted corn syrup crap.

The seaweed inspectors have underestimated, maximum gust at the moment in Scotland 91mph, a man has been blown off a cliff..

Down here 300 miles away at my nearest Weather station it's now blowing 51mph, I'd better check the boat cover again when I get home, I've check the SC webcams at the moment my Motorboat is moving around on it's moorings but it looks OK..
