So, the guys on the Quantum team are not at all arrogant about being the bomb. They have incredibly low-key and accessible personalities, and I am often put at ease and made to feel as if I belong, not that I’m just some girl who won some contest. Each sailor on the team is strikingly accomplished; it is significant and opportunistic to learn from them. I am going to be a MUCH better sailor when I leave here, for sure. Today I learned how to do the woolies (yarn ties) on their spinnakers with Phil Jameson, who was on the winning boat of the Volvo Ocean Race this year, and Greg Gendell, who is also a Whitbread and America’s cups under his belt. I feel a little foolish working next to people who could do this kind of stuff ten times over in the time it takes me to do it once, but I’m glad for the training and experience. These guys are really quite unpretentious. I don’t know, but if I competed in races like the Volvo Ocean Race and the America’s Cup, I’d probably plaster my name in giant letters on everything. I’d also bring back Hammer Pants in the United States, because oh yes, they are back in style over here in Europe. If you think I’m lying, guess what? I’m not.

The boat is AWESOME, by the way - I’m in love! Actually, I was a little nervous to go for my first sail on the TP-52, but it turned out to be a good day to get acclimated to the boat, simply because the lack of wind allowed me to see how the systems work in slow motion. I at least got a sense of movement, for when the wind does decide to show its pretty face here in Portimao. Minimally, getting out on the water today showed me that a boat is a boat, and I shouldn’t be nervous. The team doesn’t intend to leave me ill prepared or displaced, and I’ve already learned what not to step on and where not to put my hands - I do tend to learn those things pretty fast, anyways.

She has limited internet access I believe as one of her good friends and haven't really heard from her. I believe she is writing things up and the PR guys are posting it up. Also I'm just guessing here but Quantum may only want her to publish the stories on their site to draw attention to them...that is how these publicity stunts usually work. Something tells me there will be a full debrief from her after everything is done and over. She never forgets the people who helped her get to where she is now.

STB is correct -- anything she puts out while there has to be done through "official" Quantum channels. Any sort of interview or article requests have to go through Quantum -- she can't give one media outlet any sort of preferential consideration.

As already mentioned, she is doing posts on Facebook via the Quantum website and Twitter and clearly Clean will be getting stuff from her, so I think you will be able to follow her adventure pretty well. . .

Hey guys, we really did have a bit of a struggle with the internet here, but it seems to be up for us now. We are on break right now, waiting for the breeze to come in so we can go out for a practice. I'm having a great time and learning a LOT, and the pictures and videos will slowly be streamed your way. I'm so sorry for the inconsistent updates, but we are pretty busy and everything really depends on taking advantage of the wind as much as we can. The team is great, and I couldn't feel more at home out here. It's hot, though!!!!

I will definitely try to get some more stuff up later after sailing and the crew dinner.

Re. the front page article: Portugal is on the Atlantic ocean shore, like the US east coast (incl. the chesapeake). The Mediterranean sea is the sea on the other side of Spain...

We're sailing South of Portugal out near the Straights of Gibraltar ... no one is really sure exactly what body of water this is, but I'm sure they call it the Audi MEDCup for a reason ... not trying to be an ass but, oh well ...

Haha, sorry, couldn't help myself! Things are going great, internet still sucks, headed out for practice races today. Still having a blast, will try to get you guys a good write up, but things are pretty busy. Miss yous!

It's called the Med cup I think because most of it takes place in the Med, Portugal doesn't have any coastline in the Med.

I think the fact that no is really sure is probably the result of them being polite.
