It was to see you yesterday, Nick, and meet your lovely mate.

Having stopped in NEH for perhaps 2 decades, isn’t there a harbor beautification committee to address the dated DREAMS and DANI 80’s Clorox bottle MoBo backdrop?

Where can I put in a complaint? 🤔
Dani and Dreams both live here for the summer. Compared to some of the big modern stuff that sometimes comes in, they are pretty innocuous.

It was good to see you and your dogs yesterday. It says something when you recognize the dogs, but not necessarily the person holding the leash.

We like dogs. Dog people are (usually) good people.

When the backlight to DREAMS comes on at dusk, I expect to see Tom Jones singing on the bridge deck.

The fairy lights at night on the upper decks are a nice touch.

Her big “tender” alongside probably cost about five times as much as my boat.

Ah, well, somebody’s got to do it.

Then again, the big Alden schooner Lion’s Whelp is on a mooring near the harbor entrance.

That’s much easier on the eyes.

How about this AC we’ve got today? Hard to believe I need a jacket. What a South looks like in maine.

Meanwhile 30 miles West at home, in a more westerly breeze, it is sweltering. My daughter and her aunt plunging into the harbor for relief

The small blue-hulled blob (not the blue sailboat) in the distance directly above the winch is our boat. It turned into a good varnishing day by late morning.

Kicking back in Downeast’s big easy.

We thought about dinner ashore but there are few choices. NEH is stilling reeling from Covid. Hours cut back or closed due to lack of help.

Went into the pine tree market with our hands up, expecting to get robbed but they wouldn’t(couldn’t) take our money (little fresh food).

We were delighted to see a delivery the next am and I prepared the dinner for our table on the water.

I enjoy those mornings where it starts out blowing from the NE. It’s cool, light air. Had a nice chat with the Cat Boat as they went the other way, combined closing speed of 6-8kts?

Maine is heaving this year. All my “quiet” spots are packed.

There is a club on a cruise right now, they are in the Boothbay area slowly making their way east, I don’t know how many are straying from the pack but it seems they are keeping to the more normal locales

We may have seen a new low in the “how to secure your boat to a mooring” category yesterday.

Very cruise-equipped IP 36 picks up the mooring behind us. Mooring pendant has a spliced bridle with large eyes spliced into each leg. A tall boy pickup is tied to one of the eyes with a piece of roughly 5/16” frayed three-strand.

People tie up the boat and leave on the launch. The pickup is hanging over the topsides.

Something doesn’t look right, so I pull out the binos. Guy on the Downeast powerboat next to us is doing the same thing.

There is a “holy crap” moment when we both realize the boat is tied to the skinny pickup line, not the mooring pendant. Not only that, it is “secured” by just taking one turn around the base of the cleat: no belay. Maybe the lead weight on the bottom of the tall boy would jam against the cleat if load came on the line. Maybe not.

Multiple calls to the harbor master’s office. Bottom line:”we can’t touch the boat”.

People finally return about 8 hours later, and are (politely) told they need to secure the boat better. Lady says “I’ve owned boats for 40 years” but struggles secure the pendant in way that doesn’t pose a danger to all

Years ago, I would have just gone over and tied the boat properly. For liability reasons, I didn’t touch it. Note: fortunately, it was relatively calm.

Discuss.

Hey! It was still there 8 hours later and I’ll bet they spent the night on it that way too!

You worry to much….

/s
You can hold a boat with a piece of dental floss if it is dead calm. That doesn’t make it a rational idea.

And no, they did not spend the night that way after being told it was not a good idea.

I trust you simply forgot the sarcasm font.

The 2020’s are a weird transitional decade yet to reveal where we’re headed.

Whatever floats your boat. These primarily scream “look how cool I am .”

I don’t mind things like this, but I have no desire to own one.
I rather like the new style of MoBo. However, I think the assault/war look taken too far is not a good thing for a few too wealthy narcissists. Too much license to be a bad boy in a world where we need peace.

Also look like the kind of boats that are most likely to run over someone else at night when the owner (or his son) is intoxicated at the helm.
