Friday 12 February Daily

With so much info available and less-than-perfect organization from yours truly (what's new?), things have gotten somewhat chaotic around these parts. So from now on until the end of this increasingly silly competition we will be organizing things here in OTW Anarchy via daily threads. That way we can make sure that our videos, schedules, pictures, and information on the ground are easy to access in chronological order. Only the SA team can create new threads in this forum, so the info should stay relatively clean. Feel free to post pertinent info as you like, weather, announcements, whatever are all welcome. Shitfights are not.

Our team will be moving back to a more traditional format starting today. We will continue with Cocktail Hour starting tomorrow evening local time, but we're going to be doing more frequent and numerous interviews so we can get as wide a variety of folks on camera as possible.

Thank you for watching, and for checking out our sponsors' links above.

This is getting ridiculous! I have sailed a few regattas with Harold B. as PRO and we went out in extremely windy condition and broke our provided boat broke into pieces. He didnt care then, why now? Albeit a different level of competition and lower stakes. Put some reef points on that pussy A5. WTF GO SAILING!

WHAT THE FUCK? No signal before 1154? Why the fuck not? So Bennet can drag EB's semi out of himself, walk of shame back to his apartment and have a shower before getting out to the racecourse? Current evidence seems to suggest that we're going to have minimal windows when this jerkoff is going to let us have some fucking racing, so they should be out there at dawn every day until three hours before sunset trying to get the races in.

Alinghi and HB have dragged sailing down far enough. MAN THE FUCK UP. This is horseshit.

From the weather thread:

Update, with the SWS 12Z model run:
SWS

1100: 3.0kts @ 171

1200: 5.1kts @ 182

1300: 7.8kts @ 196

1400: 9.1kts @ 196

1500: 9.6kts @ 194

This model is fairly certain that the race course area is going to have a wind opposite to the synoptic wind, almost like an eddy off the Gulf Stream.

Would be odd to set a course with a windward mark to the south when everywhere around has a northerly, but just might be possible.

Concerns:

1. Wind shear could be severe, making it hard to trim 60 meter main sails.

2. The northerly could overpower the southerly at any time; timed just right, that could turn the return leg into a second windward leg.

3. Waves will probably still be over a meter (last reading at the Valencia Buoy was about 1.6 meters with 23 knots of breeze from the NW.

But, it sure looks to me that a start at about 1300Z (1400 Valencia Time) with a starting line right about at 39d30m north by 0.00e is entirely feasible ...

Sun set is 6:30pm; dark is 7:00pm. Race should take about 2-3 hours. So a start at 2:00pm is totally realistic, even if there would not be 7 hours of light available. On Monday, HB held the boats on the starting line until about 2:00pm, so he has shown that he is willing to start a race that late.

Fingers crossed...

In the interest of being able to afford to keep our full crew together for another few days, we've dropped our RIB reservation for tomorrow and will be watching the whole thing from shore. We're going to find somewhere to stream our own commentary during the day, so expect some seriously chilled out fun and games mixed with piles of interviews and other interesting stuff that you might not expect.

So our boat for tomorrow got jacked by an Alinghi affiliate. Doesn't matter, we have the laser doppler creators to talk about this new technology and give us a demonstration. Plus, we will have much, much more...........
