In interviews spanning the globe, respondents expressed shock and disbelief that a firm offering customers wealth by turning their actual money into pretend money could be anything but legitimate.

I can't understand how anyone could buy into this vaporware??
There is a difference between the underlying token and the depository. Like in the days of old, you could wander around the world with gold in your pocket, and avoid the banks, but what a hassle. Of course, there was always the risk of a bank run.
What happened to FTX, and may be happening to Binance, is a good old bank run. There is a way to avoid the depositories, by having your own digital wallet on a little thumb drive. Of course, many folks have lost their thumb drives and millions of $s worth of tokens, but it's possible.

And of course, there are a plethora of those goddam intrusive gov't regulations imposed on banks, intended to make banks stay solvent thru banks runs. Gee, it would be so-o much more profitable if government would get off their backs! A true Libertarian Paradise! Until people want their money, of course.
