Fuel Right diesel additive

Does anybody have any experience specifically with this additive?

They sure make a lot of claims for it. My assumption is that the claims are greatly exaggerated but I figure I would ask anyway.

i found that wiping the tanks physically was the real solution, and I maintain with doses of SeaFoam, which really is essentially alcohol, if I recall. That and I am running Filter Boss systems

My thought too. He's proven you can't pour something in your fuel tank that will fix anything, except dead Empty.

I put fuel additives at slightly less effective than the coin under the mast. What origin or denomination coin, what year, one or a pocket full? Has anyone tried a Visa card?

Coin should be gold or silver, and it’s easy enough to encase it in epoxy. WRT denomination, it’ll be what you can find, I’m sure

There's the thing though, what do you get for a gold coin vs silver? Better weather?

It keeps the mast from falling down. Let's put it this way. I did it for years, and the mast never fell down, so clearly it works.

I have a loonie ($1 Canadian coin) epoxied to the mast step, so I can never forget and step the mast without it. A loonie is gold-coloured - god knows what the actual metallurgy is - and the mast has never fallen down.

Algae killers (BioBor etc) work to keep algae from growing, but they won't do much to preexisting algae but maybe kill it and have it get loose and make a bigger mess than before when it was stuck to the tank.
Even Biobor only can do so much if you keep getting water in the tank, I am not sure how well it can disperse from the fuel to the water.
For some real fun, try a magnet. Someone somehow convinced people that running the fuel through a magnet would help Think about it - if magnets killed cells, an MRI would be a death sentence. Now even if magnets DID kill algae, at the point it is headed up the fuel line to the engine it is only going to mean dead algae in the fuel filter instead of live algae

I'm old school, it used to be NMR imaging, but nuclear kills people so now its MRI. Don't let on that there are magnets in them or we'll be calling the machines RIs soon...

If you have a dip stick hole you can use a stick with a swab on its tip to touch the bottom and wiggle a bit

Black stick tip and it’s fouled

Racor Fuel filter inspection is also an indicator

Clean tanks and your filters stay clean for a very long time

All tanks are fouled

If you can, open the inspection port on the tank(s) and run an inexpensive wand video camera inside with backlighting from a flashlight or your cell phone. If you don’t see dark gunk accumulated in the remote corners of your tank, you’re probably fine. Just carry extra filters. If you see gunk, there are fuel polishing services that will vacuum the stuff out, run the fuel through some big filters and pump it back into your tank. I think most fuel docks in SoCal sell fuel with the treatment already mixed in. I was told the red dye is indicative of treated fuel. I had some traces of algae in my Racor secondary filter after bringing my boat down to SD from SF but hat was because everybody up in the Bay Area buys fuel from their local gas station rather than pay more for marine fuel. In six years of operating in SoCal I’ve never found a speck in my annual filter changes.

Red dye only means it is untaxed, meant for off road/farm use. The dye is VERY persistent & can be detected in small concentrations.

There was a time when diesel fuel was sold in the U.S. without dye added to it, but times have changed.

Fuel treatments will not remove growth from tank walls. Neither will polishing.

Problem is that I can't do any of those things until I physically go to the boat. And I also want to get the boat ready as quickly as possible. That is why I have been inquiring about someone who can clean the tank for me. You know in exchange for payment. I think I have it all sorted. But in the discussion about all this, someone mentioned fuel right.
