I presume when you mention paralysis you are referring to the Polio vaccine and
not that induced by trial and error vaccines.

With regard to Polio was it the vaccine that reduced the incidence of the disease or the knowledge that poor hygiene was the main cause of transmission and therefore the improvements in sanitation systems was significant in stopping the disease. I'm sure your parents can remember poor water and sanitation systems.

No...I just remember the terror that polio held over families and my mother checking me for every little fever and one of my best friends spending 3 months in an iron lung and wearing leg braces for the rest of his life.

And I remember clearly the great joy among our parents when the Salk and Sabin vaccines came out and we lined up to get them.

And the disease faded.

And I also remember that the sewer system and the water system remained the same.

And yet, the disease faded.

Pre 2021 the definition of a vaccine actually stood for an intervention that offered immunity. I had many of these myself over the years...
