Yessss !!!Kirsten will be pretty p*ssed when Abhilash scoots by. Wonder if her daily texts will get any shorter![]()
To be fair, if Kirsten wouldn't have rescued Tapio should would have been well ahead of the wind holes and it would be a much more interesting race.I guess she was happy catching up 600 Nm on Simon when he was stuck in the glue West of Tasmania..... didn't hear much complaints then.
How much did she actually loose in the rescue? She was moving very slowly when she got the alarm and then motored out of the wind hole with free diesel. To be fair, if Kirsten wouldn't have rescued Tapio should would have been well ahead of the wind holes and it would be a much more interesting race.
Kirsten interview. Pissed off no opportunity to beak south with the long no-go zone placed so high.
"Neuschafer criticised the race course, arguing that it was ‘completely unnecessary’ to make entrants keep Snares Islands and Bounty Islands to starboard; it was here that Kirsten and fellow sailor, Abhilash Tomy became caught in the wind holes of a high pressure system, while Curwen rode the south-southwesterly winds, which has helped him extend his lead.
‘It caused a whole lot of extra stress that was just unnecessary and there was no reason why any of us should have landed up in that high if we could have stayed further south. And I guess that’s the frustrating thing; I’ve been able to see on the weather fax that there’s been wind south of me, you know, but I’ve been forced to move up north and then sit around in the high so, it’s been pretty frustrating. I’ve been pretty disenchanted these last couple of weeks,’

She's getting very bitter.
53:#KirstenNeuschäfer (South Africa) - Cape George 36 “ Minnehaha” : not sailing like its 1968.instead drifting like its 21st century so that someone can have their liabilty insurance.
Don is getting his shots in as well, with this comment on the GGR race website, speaking of Kirsten and Abilash: “This painful experience after gaining so much in the preceding weeks, was obvious during their weekly calls to Race Control. Frustration and delusion were taking over.”She's getting very bitter.

i guess looking at the weather conditions from weather fax, having a rough idea of where he should be.How did K and A know that they were gaining and loosing? Latter is rather obvious, but they shouldn't know where Simon is and how fast he is sailing.
I agree with this. Look, this race is pretty stupid from a safety standpoint. Old slow boats in the southern ocean for long periods. You have to bound it conservatively where you can so it doesn't look like (or actually become) a death match. As it is they have a number of boats running very low on water and we’re not to Cape Horn yet.that said, the attrition on the last edition was high and there were some pretty dangerous things going on. Dismastings, broken backs, roll overs, etc. Don was lucky no one got killed. He probably didn't have much of a choice but to set the bumpers very conservatively.
The course is the same as in the last edition!Simon no doubt has his shit together, knows how to push his boat and therefore is well in the lead. Cannot blame Kirsten for being frustrated however. The condition her boat needs to really haul (if you can say that with any of these boats) are below a very arbitrary line. Other than that it's luck of the drawl, she and Abhilash probably don't need to buy mega millions tickets.
