why do you say that? current position or predicted average speeds going ahead?Smart money is now on either Simon or Abhalish to be first across the line.
(as of now they are all doing ~6knts)

True. But Simon is, I believe, the most experienced *racer* out there (and has the benefit of a cleaned bottom in Chile and a bit of a “rest” there), while Abhilash has the experience of a solo circumnavigation already. Kirsten, while strong, doesn’t have either of their experience, I don’t think. (That said, she may be very hungry to win.)Smart money isn't wasted on wagers in contests dominated by so many unknown variables. Enjoy the spectacle of this race, but don't bet yer house on it like Crowhurst.

probably posted way earlier in the thread but worth another watch even if you have seen itTrue. All that said, indeed, who knows…too many variables with folks still south of the Equator…
Kirsten has more ocean miles than any of the other competitors. Her weakness is her understanding and use of the weather. That said she has done many deliveries up the Atlantic but her performance in terms of weather tactics and strategy down the Atlantic wasn't great.True. Obviously she doesn't know where he is, said on the latest weekly call that he seems to be on radio silence.I am surprised Kirsten is not moving west, both to "cover" Tomi, and because the Atlantic doldrums is generally less extensive the further west you go, plus you pick up a following current right at the corner of Brazil.
in all likelyhoods we will see a frustrated radio call from Kirsten this week.Sure looking like skirting the coast of South America will maybe pay off for Tomy over the next week or so. Windy looks like Kirsten is set for a week or so of sunbathing.
That boat is built like a tank. Saw it in the US right after it was launched for the last GGR. Istvan seemed pretty serious about making sure the rig stayed up. Double backstays and more.View attachment 581206
Seems he had a bit of luck with that one, hopefully it holds.
Could be. Then again, Don, the Interwebz (and Windy) keep predicting "we'll have a new leader tomorrow", but Kirsten just keeps replying "text" and sailing on... I guess I'll believe it when I see it and then start carping on about real vs "corrected elapsed time" ;-)and simon seems clearly will pass both leaders soon
Hard fate…hope his anchoring system is good for a Cape Horn anchorage in fall (it likely isn’t at all, since these boats are presumably prepped mostly/only for a nonstop solo circumnavigation). So - hope calmer weather holds for him…
