The vast majority of vids have pretty ordinary on board footage (footage..is that term still used in the digital world Dylan?). Maybe they need to take a leaf out of the action/surf genre production playbook.

Once you have had a look and wonder how they shoot some of this stuff, fast forward to 2.30.

While these islands off West Sumatra look great for cruising they are pretty challenging. Squally, anchorages pretty scarce and like a lot of Indonesia charts are not worth a cracker.

In the sea of UTube sailing fluff pieces a big screen sailing movie is a shot in the arm as they don't come along very often.

This documentary about Mike Plant the American singlehander has been a couple of years in the making and has just started to screen on the US east coast. Hopefully it will have some form of world wide release.

By the way the Coyote was found sans Mike the day the 2nd edition of the Vendée Globe started in 1992.

Also sans keel. Another data point, and the hits just keep on coming!

the other sailing vlogger who has come a long  way is Miss Lone Star

she started off by waggling her tush at the camera a lot

the low point was some twerking...

those vids appear to have been removed...

she was also giving away rather too much about her complicated personal  life

The sailing appears to have helped her to centre herself

and now she dishes out some pretty good advice about all the things you don't need on a boat

she aquired a boat for  $1 - threw the engine out and now runs with an old Johnson on the stern

Yes after a little research I too can confirm that she has lost her amateur status. Pretty boring though. Mainly guys dining at her Y while she smiles and make stupid faces at the Camera.
LB your research was somewhat lacking. I'm a bit over this head filled with anti-freeze chick so can't be bothered providing a linky but if you had used Le Siri you would have discovered she has a twin sister. Unless the both of them lined up for a Sikaflex injection at the same time, 1000 psi cans run in the family.

Dylan you know way too much about these girls.  They are boring.  I enjoyed your paddle down the river more.

If a person wants to see naked women then go to a porn site FFS, that's what piper is all about  These women awkwardly posing on the beach, are pathetic.
they have blown me off the water

It is beginning to remind me of the classic Monty Python Alan Wicker sketch
The potted palms in the sand and the French coastline in the distance would indicate a slim budget for that one.

Q. Well Father why did you stay on (in this mosquito ridden hell hole etc)??

A. Mmmm well mainly for the intercourse.

^^^^^^°

Enrico and his family have been out there for a few years now specialising in going places many fear to tread. He doesn't produce a lot of content but the quality is second to none. He is not interested in patronage and obviously does it both to inspire and for self satisfaction.

Like Dylan the number of views he gets is disproportional to quality and not a lot compared to the canbuster brigade which says a lot about the audience.

I never thought about looking for Dylan on Pornhub. I don't think I want to.

I haven't watched the old sea dog but Ran I have. Anyway at first blush I thought they were no different to all the other shit out there, but a combination of they have a decent boat, the infectious chick and the guy who is a bit northern euro stone faced but clearly self reliant and has a don't stop unless I have sorted this shit properly attitude, which is very attractive to viewers with a double digit IQ and essential for what they are doing.

Production quality is pretty good and they do a good mix of everything on and off the boat and unlike many interact with the locals (the Vagamites have no concept of that). They are worth following IMHO.

I agree about Ran sailing

they also started off cold sailing

which was impressive.

I think that is the essence of the thing - you make an emotional investment in these people and wish to see them continue

Incidentally they  are earning $1,000 per film -

https://www.patreon.com/ransailing

so they are digging pretty deep into their sailing budget to make the films.

The costs of the camera gear and the bandwidth will be costing them might be costing them the thick end of $200  per film - plus three hot days sweating over their top spec laptops. They have marinas, anchorages, food, gas, diesel, water and bandwidth to pay for. I have never been to these places but I assume none of comes cheap.

One of the reasons why we get to see the vloggers in the same place is because that is where the bandwidth is.  They are feeding the viewers desire to spend time with them - to learn more about them as viewed thro/ugh the bits they choose to show you. That desire requires weekly or even twice weekly feeding.

These people are good at what they do. I am sure you feel that after spending maybe 25 hours sailing with them you know something about them - who they are and what they are like.

But do you?

D
