Yeah - click the link in my post. It’s an NBC News story about the OF phenomenon, and their channel in particular (called “Texas Thighs”), and how the young kids watch their mom shooting T and A pics with their dad for OF subscribers. Peculiar, but who am I to judge: it’s Texas.

I’d not heard of these Wharram cats before this thread. I see that there’s quite a range from the rather threadbare versions as in the video to some fairly well finished and somewhat tricked out editions.

Is there a subculture of sea hippy types who are drawn to these designs and build and sail them?

That woman makes me cringe and actually, so does he, but it's a Wharram and they went interesting places. A couple of my friends crossed paths with them in Darwin and weren't complimentary so - shrug.

Best viewed with the sound off IMO.

If I were (a LOT) younger a Wharram cat would be about No 3 on my list of boats to build & play with. But as I can't see ever getting to the next one on the list, it won't be happening.

Got it. That’s why “the captain” (the dude) in the video I linked to above has long hair. So confusing these days. She, on the other hand, def comes across more as the captain in those vids, and she has a husky demeanour.

Still pissed at them I was not in the video helping them bring >1000 beers down the ramp in Malaysia. However did try some of their moonshine later in the week so all was good.

We met a semi-popular cruising couple on a beach in Grenada. They were attempting to cook a fish and bread on a campfire when we met them. It didn't go so well. They came over to our boat, and we had cheese, crackers, lots of wine, and I think we even cooked up a garlic bread. We had a great evening and they are a lovely couple. A few months later I was a bit disappointed the beach bbq got a whole episode, and we didn't get a mention. But I realized that their "brand" is being alone on a grand adventure - and showing others doing the same thing and/or offering a helping hand undermines that.

We have hung out with several more youtube sailors, always the same. I see it as a separation of work and personal life for them.

Hah. Different folks I guess. I made it crystal clear that I didn't want to be recorded or talked about when I had a couple on my place. It was nice to see that my chickens got a cameo segment though.

I have a couple of YT channels that I like but I really don't have a desire to meet anyone. Maybe Kevin Boothby...maybe.

In the Caribbean it is hard to find other cruisers in their 30s that don't have a youtube channel. So we aren't meeting them or hanging out because we like or have seen their channels, just because they are nice. Happily though, there has been a trend (at lease in my scene) towards 30 somethings getting into sailing just to sail (sans vlogs). Maybe partly because of inspiration from youtube, or accessibility of pricing, or whatever, or a movement away from commercialism. But I always try to make a point to reach out to them, and about half of them I end up becoming friends with and staying in touch. It is really nice to have a common interest with new friends, because you meet such a different group of people.

As I mentioned in another thread recently, I"m a lazy sailor, I do it for... wait for it,..... FUN and Relaxation (as well as to get some distance between me and the noisy busyness of crowds.

Amen, brother. My wife is a shutterbug. She'll record it all for memories when we're in our dotage. I intend to live in the moment.

I am sad (and somewhat relieved) to report that our last pet, a 21 year old cat has finally passed. It really ripped my guts out but it was time and we are both finally free.
