I watched a couple of Gone with the Wynns, thanks to them connecting with the king of narrowboat vlogging, David Johns, of Cruising the Cut. Evidently while waiting for their new cat, the Wynns have mounted a content generating expedition down the Llangollen canal. They are very easy to watch, not just because I like multihulls, and I was reflecting on why. Vlogging couples have a unique challenge when telling a story together, in the need to balance their talk time and most importantly, not interrupt each other. There is the well known problem of, mostly men, interrupting mostly women, and on the canal vlog side you see that with Minimal List, who do a lot of two-to-camera narration. They're lovely people and it's not terrible, but you're often thinking "let her finish her sentence!" You also see, with La Vag for example, where Riley kind of owns the boat stuff and goes on about "my boat" all the time, sometimes even when Elena's there, which also somehow rankles.
Anyway, the Wynns are really well balanced and it's particularly good how they are both equally happy talking about technical details in a boat tour. Watch their recent muiltihull boat show tours for example. But they have an ease about them when talking together that works really well. See here for a random example from David John's video. (If you haven't watched Cruising the Cut by the way, Johns truly is one of the best Vloggers on any topic, especially if you like Extremely English things).

just let me guess, single lesbian who wont shut the fuck up about whatever your agenda is.

Sailing up to Alaska in the winter time

goodonem

I've been watching these two since northern Norway. They seem to be unconventional (as YouTubers go) but genuine. Being Finns, they actually prefer snow and skiing to swimming with pigs. No bikinis and very little melodrama. I look forward to following Juho & Sohvi as they Keep Turning Right in their high lattitude journey. I wonder how well Starlink will work through the Northwest Passage?

Afterthought: Sometimes the talking head version of Juho wrestles with the ethics of asking people for financial support. This is a refreshing alternative to the hand outretched grifters...

In the vernacular of my youth, Juho is eager to " hang his ass out in the breeze". Sail 50 miles from a small village, anchor alone in a fjord, hike up 4,000 feet and ski down with a drone following him.
You'll notice the lack of marine traffic in Southeast Alaska. No one goes there on purpose in the winter.
I just read a history of the "Winter War" when the Finns stopped the Russian army and killed a hundred thousand of them in 1939, the winter of 39-40. Obviously a special set of humans.

I particularly enjoy Juho remarking that various potential catastrophes "would be very annoying", or "inconvenient".
I nominate him for "King of YouTube Understatement".

I can’t avoid the thumbnails on YouTube when they auto suggest something.

What is this bizarre consoomerist mentality where buying a product in a capitalist market society is presented as some sort of incredible achievement?

It reminds me of a child who has gone to the bathroom alone for the first time - “Look Mommy, I took a shit!!

👏 Well done junior, did you remember to wipe your ass?

This looks like some couple in their 30s, 500 subscribers but their patreon begging bowl is already set up for the “refit”. Best of luck to their Contest 38, it will likely need it.

Nice to see another Contest getting refit - same year as mine. I may watch just for that. I immediately recognized that big heavy stainless nose.

Geeez, how about cutting them some slack?! They just bought probably their first boat. I remember what that was like. We didn't have Youtube or Facebook or Twitter or ..... but you'd best believe we found ways to tell everybody we could think of all about it.

Just give it a try. Don’t whine about no girls. It’s quirky. It’s kinda fun. It’s Jan Mayen. Vid actually starts about 4 minutes in. Don’t complain to me if you don’t like it, the soundtrack is weird, the climate looks cold, or that the video is old. It’s all that and more. Which is exactly why it’s worth watching. And it answers to everyone’s deep-seated, always-repressed desire to have, or at least sail, a wooden boat. It’s a simple film from a simpler time, before YT sailing channels were a thing, that tells the tale of an adventure of two small wooden boats to a far away place…some good sailing footage in it.
