Wet suits: I know a professional clam diver who gets cockles and steamers out of Tillamook bay with a hookah rig. The ocean is 44 F but the bay gets colder with runoff. He starts with a 3,4,5 mm layer, and finishes with a 10 mm, layers of poly in between for flexibility. Good for 4-5 hours, then he comes in and drinks whiskey (no ice).

I've sailed Ontario in 8-10 ' coming from Kingston ON to Sodus Bay, NY. Basically square waves with wind 25 kts out of the west. I can't image double that, the piers at Sodus would be invisible
