What is it they're tuning that has a "tuning slide"?  Some kind of horn?
still a little flat... hey let's try tuning up 2 octaves.

Got a new guitar the other night.  Wanted a Chapman for a while after watching all their video content on youtube.  I was really surprised by how excellent the thing is.  Highly recommend and theyre very reasonable price wise.

If you're looking for a 64 strat sound, this aint it, but it's a really excellent sounding modern guitar.

This is a safe corner to whine a little, right?

Open mic night, playin' da blues at a little local bar..... bass player is a friend and neighbor, we've actually gotten together to practice a bit and had a lot of fun, we have about a dozen or so songs that we're actually pretty good with.

Drummer very excitedly drags in this kit, says "Mind if I sit in with y'all" and proceeds to make loud random drum noises, no sense of rhythm and apparently can't count to 4. I almost think it was some kind of a test for us. Fortunately, after three songs he gave up his seat to another guy who is an actual real drummer, and we knocked out a pretty good (if I may say so myself) version of "New Day Yesterday".... at least the audience seemed to approve pretty strongly.

Then this guy came in (on the left).... a young marine playing Stevie Ray

He was GREAT!

Pretty good night of music, Mrs Steam who is generally patient at best with this kind of thing, said she had a marvelous time and enjoyed it a lot. Might be the dancing with handsome young guys, I dunno. Maybe a further report next week.

This is why i stopped putting our open mic on craigslist.  We can be a bit weird but somehow the CL freaks take the cake.

Theres a product called the Tonewood Amp that does all this and attaches to any acoustic guitar.  Reverb, delay etc.  Played around with one and it works really well/sounds great.  Mike Dawes is amazing too if youre looking for some interesting acoustic playing.

That looks really cool and seems like a promising use of technology.

It's an expensive little bugger though, you can get a decent acoustic with built-in pickup and a small-ish battery powered amp that will do more; for the same/less money..... it's more to carry around though.

I have a Vox DA-5 that I picked up cheap, except that it tends to go POP! when powering on, regardless of the gain/volume settings. It's a great amp and surprisingly loud for 5 watts. Lots of dial-able sounds from reverb to delay to flanging & chorus. I also have a Blackstar Fly which is not all that loud (still louder than an acoustic) but sounds very good & clean, has reverb. Then to go yet a bit smaller, I have a Vox AC-2 which is quite fun, also has effects built in (and can do two at once, you can have reverb + chorus for example (but of course Vox chorus is not Roland chorus)) and it has a rhythm machine built in.

These last two are the only mini-amps I've found that are worth having. The others (and I've bought nearly everything) are either crap sound, nowhere near loud enough to even be worth plugging into, or both. I know a lot of people who get the Danelectro Honeytone which has the benefit of being dirt cheap, but at least is slightly louder than an acoustic alone. Crappy sound though........ yeah I'm spoiled.........

I recently played a Vox MV50 recently - it's a small-footprint ( 2lbs - less than lunchbox sized) 50W "nanotube" amp.  Tube pre-amp, solid state output side - and it was amazing.  I like small, low wattage amps - the days of needing 4 stacks of 4X12 speakers and pushing each of those w/a 100W Marshall head are gone - you can get the tone you want from something small, mic it, and get your volume from the PA.   I primarily play thru a Mesa Boogie MkV:35, and usually have it switched down to 5 watts.

Acoustically?   I like the idea that this Yamaha and the Tonewood amp do - because you don't need ANY powered amp to get those tones - so if you're playing on the deck, or someplace w/out amplification, you can still get that big tone, and NO GUITAR CABLES!!!!

I'd certainly like to check it out. Give us a report, please!

The MV-50 is also on my wish list. I've got a ZT Lunchbox 200W (and yeah, it's the size of a lunchbox) which has quite good sound but is not at all a tube amp. Sure is easy to pack though, and it's easily got enough punch for any gigs I'm likely to get asked to. Lately I've been practicing at home thru the Roland.....  That Mesa Boogie looks like a really nice rig.

All I can say is that that Yamaha is like a freakin' self-contained concert - For $1K?  Man - I'm seriously thinking about getting rid of one of my Tele's to get it.  Yamaha makes great instruments at an unbelievable price point.  I've been told that the Tonewood amp makes any decent acoustic sound like the Acoustasonic Yamaha, but, then you've got it hangin' off the back of your guitar.  The Tonewood amp is only $250 - and will work with YOUR guitar, so it's got that going for it.

The sound that those things make is just unbelievable - it's like the cleanest, tonally equalized signal w/reverb and chorus all coming out of the soundhole of your unplugged acoustic guitar - the guys at the guitar shop got a picture of me playing it, and I had the goofiest grin, it's that cool.

The MV50 is a GREAT amp for the price - my old bandmate has one as a backup for his Vox AC30 - back to back, it's slightly thinner than the big Vox - but man, that much sound coming outta such a little and inexpensive box?  NOW is the time for music gearheads.

OK, I'm a cheapskate.... I can only afford one (well two) medium-nice guitars and don't have a tube amp currently, much less a really nice one.

I'll be looking for a chance to try out this new Yamaha. They do make very nice instruments, I had a Yamaha 12 string for years, long ago, it was a total workhorse, played nicely, and had better sound than I really appreciated at the time.

Thanks for the review!
