Apologies for those who can't see FB links - but, Timothy Bram is a Baltimore, MD area luthier, and I thought his take on a hollow-body Tele would be a welcome addition to that pretty guitar posted above.

Gorilla glue and a short piece of leather from an old belt.... cut the matching apurture before gluing it in place. A couple of clothespins clamp it in place soundly enough, use the glue sparingly (and according to directions) with masking tape.

It's an easy, very strong fix.... but it's also easy to get the glue on almost everything around

Gibson SJ200 /vs/ Epiphone EJ200???

Getting in to an acoustic project, and I'm not real thrilled w/the idea of leaving the Martin I inherited from my Dad up on stage.  A buddy has a maple-backed SJ200, and it's a wonderful, booming voiced guitar.  It's also quite pricey, and I saw an EJ200 for 1/10th - @ $499.   Any of our guitar players ever do a back to back comparison between these two?   if the Epi plays well enough and doesn't sound thin - I'd feel a lot less anxious gigging it out than I would an irreplaceable heirloom.

Appreciate the thoughts!

If you're playing in a typical venue with an average PA, nobody's going to notice whether you're playing a 1940's Martin or a $500 Epiphone. As long as it has good action, tuning stability and an even tonal range you should be OK.

Good point - you might have just saved me some money....  I played the EJ this AM, and it sounds nice, good neck, needs a little fretwork and some Elixir strings, but it's a nice guitar, especially for the $$.

You don't get a nice guitar for your audience, you get it for yourself.  That said, I don't have any "nice" guitars, although I do have some that I really like.

Girlchild went and got her Dad's old Eppy fixed on Saturday.

She did a little guitar tuition when she was about 13...got bored.

Sitting upstairs I hear the riff to Don't Fear The Reaper followed by a pretty dam sweet attempt at the intro to Roadhouse Blues..

It's like hearing a ghost

She's only been practicing since Saturday Afternoon..Good instrument helps I think.
The thread has drifted off into gearhead territory..

Songs like seven nation army will really boost confidence and for a beginner playing along over the whole song is a lot of fun even if its just a few notes over and over.

If she has a soundcard with which she can plug into a computer I'd recommend Guitar rig as a virtual pedalboard + amp and optionally FL studio/ableton/ logic, sonar/protools to record on.

I don't know about the Epi copy but the Alvarez SJ200 copy I had is still one of my favorite guitars I've ever owned. Stopping in Grunhert's Guitars in Nashville (worth a pilgrimage) the 1960 SJ200 they had was the pick of the whole store, and they had everything from original '50s Strats to 1930s jazzboxes in perfect condition. It's a wonderful guitar.

The problem with these less-expensive dreadnoughts is the stress- the Alvarez was not well taken care of.. hell I took it out sailing... and the plywood top began doing odd things. I did not know back then, you could shave off and re-glue the bridge, that might have fixed it.

To quote Duke Ellington (yeah yeah I know, what kind of guitar did he play, but still) "If it sounds good, it IS good."

I wouldn't expect an SJ200 copy to become an heirloom, but I'd sure get one to play for fun..... or drag around thru bars and/or boats..... before I coughed up $5k for an original to sit in a vault at home.

Another possibility is the reissue SJ185, I've played a couple of those. They feel a little soul-less to me but they're still new. Give 'em a decade or so of strumming and I bet they'll acquire a very nice character.

Well - I took the EJ200 home last night, and played it plugged/unplugged for about an hour, and I just didn't bond with it.  No one thing - it sounded OK, has a decent neck, but, it just didn't feel right.  Purely subjective.   The GD guitar pusher buddy in my office ( he sells guitars on the side ) brought in one that DID feel good as soon as I picked it up - an Ibanez AE-510NT.    It looks a lot like it was based upon a Taylor 414 - solid wood, satin finish neck, and it felt good as soon as I picked it up.   Will take it home tonight and bang on it a bit, but, i think that I may be trading a Tele for this one.

Check out the PRS cheaper series of acoustics.  I feel like any time i post here it's about PRS, but i genuinely think theyre great instruments/great quality control on the more inexpensive side.  I have a $600 PRS acoustic, like this one: https://www.guitarcenter.com/PRS/SE-TX20E-Tonare-Grand-Acoustic-Electric-Guitar-Natural-1500000143039.gc?cntry=us&source=4WWRWXGP&source=4WWRWXGP&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhdTqBRDNARIsABsOl98UNutmKkWTH2GIdej56HbqguX2Jfe0xPv3QktTedOpO1ZMs0UlqPsaAt0bEALw_wcB

And it's great.  super stable, feels great.

Saw John Mayer last night.  The guy can wail.  Incredible performance and total guitar porn throughout the whole night.  64 strat, 3 PRS electrics, 60s Gibson ES, martins, Two Rock amp etc.  Some amazing tones.

I’m the resident drummer here, I guess. Gonna meet up with a guitar player this weekend that wants to play cow punk. Stuff like this:

"That song is fine and all but it could really use some more jazz harmony..." ;)
I like it. My buddies and I could blues that up pretty nice, I think.

A guy at the bar where we've been doing open mic nights for a while said to me "You all're awesome but you need to drop all that jazz shit. Play with FEELING!"

Is loud distortion "feeling?" Asking for a friend.......
