ROTATING MAST

Would have removable tiller steering for racing aft, wheel for cruising (forward per standard Gunboat layout with controls in front of cabin)

Lines would be handled either centrally (cruising), or to a duplicate station for racing (steer and trim next to one another for faster response in aft of boat)

True master berth for the 80% users (owner couple) (Burn an entire hull on that), and at least 2 other cabins with queens for guests.

Racing Sail Plan that is dangerous (Screw the hanging of A Cat from davits...make the boat SAIL like an A Cat)

Cruising Sail Plan that is consistent with other current Gunboat ratios of SA/D

Pod system to allow shorthanded, nav system driven close quarters handling. Call your brothers and ask how the MJM system is working for them...

Pricing - 30% premium over Catana Carbon Hybrid... I'd never pay 60' pricing for anything less than a 60' boat...

This bring up the question of what a 60' boat is, or a 40 or 45' We erroneously compare the "size" of boats by waterlines. We've seen more and more stuff jammed into shorter waterlines in the name of "more for less" and lower slip fees which results in more weight, lower performance, higher windage...I'm not sure the more for less goal is ever achieved.

So what defines how "big" of a boat you want? Number it sleeps? Sense of space or elbow room down below (hull beam)? Number in the cockpit for a daysail? Load carrying for offshore cruising? Price?

Do we then compare 2 boats of the same length and ask which is "cheaper". I wouldn't compare the GB55 with other 55' cats. It's a unique animal. It would seem they've taken the accommodations of a 45' condomaran and designed a performance boat around it, which came out to be 55' long. If you take the same ratio then a low 40' GB would have the accommodations of a mid 30' charter boat, if you didn't try to stuff 3 cabins and multiple heads, it would be nice boat for a couple and the occasional guests. Somewhere between a Seawind 1000/1160 turboed on 40+ foot hulls. Nice.

I look forward to any news from Peter on the new ~40' design as it evolves.

I agree. There are a lot of options for the typical cruiser in this size. I would like a 40' closed bridgedeck, 1 head (no girls otherwise), minimal accomodations to keep out of the weather, and great performance. Seawind 1000-ish, with more emphasis on the speed. Or maybe Outremer 40 like, but modern.

MDR Mark has it right. In order for the 40 to be a Gunboat it will have to have much less living space than a 40' Clorox Bottle charter cat. However that can't mean lack of comfort. At minimum 2 decent cabins and 2 heads and ample seating areas on the bridge deck that are long enough to be slept on.

I'd prefer galley up but could live with a small fridge and grill up if the galley has to be put in a hull to keep the bridge deck open. Definitely stick with the GB steering station and front sail handling cockpit but if you could make the rudder posts accessible from the deck to put a tiller arrangement on for racing it would real be cool.

Since I heard about the 40, I've been picturing a smaller lighter GB 55 aimed at daysailing/racing and short cruises but capable of the Norfolk to Tortola hop if you wanted to play with it in the islands over their winter. I think it will always be a bit of a stretch to live aboard a GB 40 as all the junk you accumulate will kill the performance, but given the magic Peter has created with the other Gunboats, I have no doubt that just the right compromises will be found.

^ I love Maine and all (I go every summer, and I grew up sailing in Maine every Summer), and I hope MaineCat does very well, but... That is no Gunboat.

-Hot water shower on the back

-360 degree views

-Single helm ( to save space ) with adjustable seating to see above hard dodger or close the roof and look down the side past the cabin

-No freaking outboards! Are there any intelligent systems that could use a joystick with one engine and a thruster? Although having two diesels would be my preference. Electric is a gimic in the real world.

- 2 huge cabins for owner and to show off

- 1 cabin with bunks

- 1 small double cabin ( if it fits )

- 1 really nice bathroom

- 1 smaller bathroom, hand shower small basin basic style but with high end fittings to compensate for smaller size, maybe some cool lights.

- Large steps from water on the stern

- really deep swim ladder

- A close-able cavity in the cockpit floor so you can look through the floor to bring the atmosphere in the cockpit and ventilation obviously would need to be plugged in a sea. Plug could be hung in the hard dodger roof. Great space to stow cockpit table

- cockpit refrigeration could just be a waeco ( ice is too expensive ) these days. Lockable so it can't be stolen.

- windows from saloon to bridge deck to be able to be wound down into the cavity or removed and stowed

  7. Enough speed to blow your hair back, and reinforce the GUNBOAT brand.
  8. Safe enough to go offshore. Perfect for local summers and Caribbean winters.
  9. Project name was 122, but my family looked a little uneasy about that, so final name will be announced soon.
  10. As usual, we will only use the best materials available.

Any ideas on steering? Twin tillers or wheel or both? Fwd cockpit arrangement seems tough on boat that size .Also are we talking daggerboards or centerboards..

Well for the coin you're gonna pay I reckon PJ will let you have it with 3 heads and a stripper pole if you want... Actually if I'm cruising in the Med I'd definitely want the stripper pole option.

Yeah G122 would have been a little derivative as well as confusing with that other Johnstone product.

Peter...you are so on it to bring us a G4

I so wanted a 48 but could not afford it at time

I have torn apart SIG 45, Outremer new 45, XLight TS50 and conclude a salon helm is a must. Could do tiller as option. I hope lots of customization ability for owners committed to purchase. I do prefer a few cruze amenities similar to Outremer 45 vs a racier SIG 45. We all await fist drawings
