Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh! The aesthetic is so right! BUT

Ditch the standing headroom! That had to cross your mind! It had to!

With the right ergonomics it could be perfect. Like an Alerion 27. You don't need standing headroom in one- the companionway is perfect, every interior accommodation is at hand.

With a lower profile this thing would be sexier than a 72 in full flight!

A step past a Wally!!! Egads, Peter!

the boat is beautiful

I want to see the polars
I think the more radical these boats get, the harder it will be to have polars. They will be very sensitive to very subtle things. Someone with the right touch on the tiller will be much faster than someone with the wrong touch, and a centimeter of difference in any trim control will make a huge difference too.
Get this thing in a groove and you will take off.

No?

I personally love the vertical cabin house turret style. It's actually very functional and the G4 design team did a great job bringing sex appeal to the 40-50 ft catamaran range. Those complaining about a price range north of 750k could always step up to the plate and create their own version of a GB. There are options out there who can live without the GB branded boat but love the styling. I'm personally involved and aware of one that is being offered to the market. A 52 ft performance one off custom cat created with the help of the original GB team. Would love to get some opinions and thoughts from the GB lovers on this thread. Check it out. www.maltesecatamarans.com. The ready to sail package priced at $525K. A bit below the GB pricing but not promising the fit out that Pete offers by any means. Been told it's a noble effort and at 34 yrs old, I'm pretty proud of what we've done in under a year.

Keep it up Peter, hopefully there is room in your coattails for us youngsters....

P.S. Ed doesn't want or need my ad $$, tried offering....

...wonder what it feels like to grab a lobster pot on one of those appendages at 25 knots.....those rudders in particular look SOOO vulnerable

M52.....your turrets are certainly pretty imposing and probably not reminiscent of the GB styling....love your drive and determination (in flippin the bird at Ed also...) but the aesthetic doesn't quite do it for me, at least in the drawings

wow M 52 ... with 52 feet ..I think you could have done a little better job with that cabintop... sorry to say it looks hiddeous to me, but than beauty is in the eye of the beholder ....

rear beam high enough off the water ? or are you doing a fountain of youth ever so often ... kinda slows you down in a hurry... but no matter what the lego-house cabin top would kill it for me, no matter what the price is ..

Back to the G4

VPP polars assume the boat is being sailed 100% perfect. The question is, can the VPP actually predict the lift ratio between hull and board. The answer is it can get it close, but probably only the versions developed for the AC72's will do it justice.

As boats go faster the groove can become narrower. It's all in how forgiving the design is, I suspect this will be on the forgiving side and maintaining high average speeds will be the key.

Thor, the turret style cabin house has served the commercial boat market very well for many years. But i do I agree it's hard to pull off in a sexy way. Can't compete with it from a functionality standpoint. The renderings of tge G4 seem to show a house without standing headroom,( except center nacelle) which would be hard to have at 40ft. Would love to see how they pulled off the current GB 55 cabin house. Any actual pics out there.? Lots of acrylic glass I guess. Appreciate your thoughts on my build... Duly noted...The trouble with most of us is that we would rather be ruined with praise than saved with criticism.

FYI, the Maltese bridge deck clearance will be nearly a metre, like the original GB designs that our model stems from. No expected fountains of youth as you say.

I wonder if Peter is going to ever go to the dark side with GB? There is a tremendous desire for power cats these days, so much so we are working on a power version. I would love to see the GB team do a sexy power cat design, any thoughts on that, the market would eat them up.

A couple of thoughts (maybe answered already)...

1. Will this boat foil out of the water or are the foils just to help performance.

2. Is 5000 lbs really possible on a 40 ft cat?

It just boggles my mind that a huge boat like this with the stated amenities can weigh the same as a full size car.

M52 - I'm confused. Are you producing a commercial boat?....I didn't think so. Surely for most the 'row away' or 'dockside' aesthetic has to be a consideration in a $0.5M ++ lifestyle investment?? Sure, a square house is practical. You don't see too many square houses on land....from my perspective you have leaned too far to the 'practical' side. Fontaine Pajot seem to get away with it, but for mine they have always been the ugliest cats on the block, and they have toned it down with more recent designs....eye of the beholder I guess

There is a lot to like about the design brief and approach, but you may find more of a home in the power cat world with that look...hoping for your sake it looks less severe in the flesh than it does on paper

Kedge, all I can say is it grows on you...I can try and explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you, If you know what i mean... ;) Plus this thread is about Peters new baby, the G4. I for one would love to get more info on when they plan to come to market with the G4. I thought the GB 55s would be out there sailing by now, but I couldnt even grasp the complexities of building 5 or 6 of them at a time having just spent the good part of a year doing one from scratch. Anyone got the latest scoop on the GB 55 launch? I guess when introducing a new model at GB, better to hold up and nail it out the park each swing then hit a foul, and that takes patience and lots of experience.

Tooling for the g4 seems simpler without the hard Chines in topsides but there is a lot of work that goes into creating that initial tooling and then adding that GB finish to the end product. I also wouldn't think that this would be a fully foiling cat but you never know what's in the works..

Like I said if GB came out with a power cat model, they would have a corner on the luxury performance cat market and would be killing it for years to come. I think (and hope) that the multihull invasion is here to stay and no better company to head the transition.

5000 lbs seems low, but it all depends and if somebody can do it than Peter will pull it off, even if its close its pretty darn awesome.

Foiling .. as in AC.. I doubt that and I think it has never been the design ...

I think that the foil will allow to leeward hull not to bury that deep and therefore allows for more sailplan , while still somewhat safe. Similar of the Ian Farrier foils for the f 32 and 33 ... If I would have the dough AND a good builder I would buy them strictly as a safety item.

My 48 ft Chris White Atlantic (epoxy over cedar) weighs in at 6995 kg with all offshore Cat 2 safety gear on board and a bigger sail wardrobe than the GB, plus an aluminum power pole for a mast - so 5000 for a 40 ft daysailer with a few comforts, all in carbon should be very do-able

Peter,

Are there any plans for water access on the transoms? The transom logos look sexy, just curious how do you offer a swim step/ swim ladder setup on the current transom design. Would it be fold out panel like they have on the sig 45. I guess some prospective g4 buyers might not be as interested in that but in most cases the (admirals and kids) would be. As for going toe to toe with the sig 45, would love to see that happen. Let's get some orders going.

Nice design and color!

It all looks vaguely familiar....

My T-foil rudders are wonderful for sailing but highly annoying with sea grass and the like.

What's your plan for removing gunk while racing?

Would a >90 degree L shape with swept back leading edge not have better 'auto cleaning' properties?
