I’d assume so. I wouldn’t let an incident like this dissuade you from going Li though. The battery system on an electric propulsion boat is much more experimental, complex, higher voltage, and there are many more failure points.Any word on if the batts were the cause (asks the guy who was thinking of finally giving up on his AGMs and moving up the technology ladder).
So you are not concerned about fire then?I’m thinking cheap Chinese-made.
Indeed. What the heck happened?Sad,
Very important to know what actually caused this fire.
we will never know, the clever battery management always destroys the evidence...Another case of lithium battery thermal runaway ???
... unless it had a live connection to the cloudwe will never know, the clever battery management always destroys the evidence...
ha, its programmed to drop the conection when things go bad...... unless it had a live connection to the cloud
As a DIY'r on my LiFePO4 boat and camper, highly encourage you to shop based on Will Proust's YouTube tear-downs of the various Chinese batts. Some of them have really shitty wiring inside. See if you can find internal shots of the brand before you buy. A buddy bought a 200amp hour thru amazon and it didn't work upon arrival. Company quickly sent him a new one but didn't want first one back. I cut into the case and found wiring I'd never allow on my boat, but perfectly fine blue-case CALB cells. Re-wired, added Bluetooth cell monitor and they're working safely.I’d assume so. I wouldn’t let an incident like this dissuade you from going Li though. The battery system on an electric propulsion boat is much more experimental, complex, higher voltage, and there are many more failure points.
I’m about to go Li on my RV. I’m thinking cheap Chinese-made.

Gutting news from the Badalona yard just outside Barcelona. Reports are no causalities thankfully but this is still terrible.

Marine traffic has Flow's last position in that harbour so......Can you provide a source for this report? I've searched for news of this event to get more details but found nothing so far.
I did find a 2017 Lagoon charter catamaran (15.8 meter = 52 feet) named FLOW based in that area but see no reason to believe it's a mix-up.
local news report 28 May a yacht on fire in that location, toxic smoke spreading into the city, but do not mention a name or brand of boat
