Hand Sewn Ship's Sails

During the first few years of my career I hand sewed many rings in sails. I also did some hand roping. There are reasons that other methods are now used. A hand sewn ring even with satellites does not distribute the corner loads better than a webbed on "O" ring. A thin brass liner that is capable of being flaired out by hand will not stand up to as much chafe as a stainless ring liner. On top of all this, time is money and hand worked rings take a lot of time.
