To me, the ones whom are marginal are the authoritarians, that is right where they belong.

BTW, a good case can be made that, after the events of Dec and Jan, I should have stopped using R-e-i-c-h;

and began using "fascist".

Everybody is saying that !!

In all seriousness, it is now really quite common to refer to the authoritarian wing of the GOP, which is roughly half of them, as "fascists".

I'm just going along with the flow.
Name calling just doesn't work. I am guilty of that at times, it is easier than coming up with an answer that makes people think twice, and having a conversation that ends with people considering what you have said. Name calling ends any conversation. If you are going to do it, save some time and just don't do it at all.

Can we use the term "populist" - would that make the fascists feel more accepted?

The NC Legislature is demanding that school curriculums be published to parents so that parents can object to what their kids are being taught. That's exactly how they word it.
A friend who lives near Asheville couldn't confirm that has been demanded.  Might you have a cite?

https://www.heraldsun.com/news/local/education/article253309488.html   "North Carolina House Republicans want to use the state budget to delay new social studies standards, require teachers to post lesson plans online and create a way for parents to object to materials used in schools."

https://www.carolinajournal.com/news-article/schools-must-post-curriculum-online-in-bill-moving-through-legislature/    "The N.C. Senate will consider the House’s Academic Transparency, House Bill 755, which would require that school systems post all curriculum and lesson plans so that parents and taxpayers can see what is being taught in the state’s public schools. The measure passed the House Wednesday, May 5, 66-50, along party lines."

The report that most closely follows what I heard our local news this morning saying was found in the News & Observer, but is for subscribers only. This quoted our legislature ranting about how parents should "raise heck with teachers once you find out what they propose indoctrinating your kids" (approximate quote).

This same legislature is also working on a bill to strip the current Governor, Roy Cooper (D), of his emergency powers due to his "rampant abuse" of office over covid.

Who in the heck would work under those circumstances???  Submit your teaching plan to the principal every day/week/month/year??  WTF.. NFW... The state is going to just get dumber...
Bingo

That's their goal. They're stupid motherfuckers who support mean stupid motherfuckers who support cynical manipulative power-hungry motherfuckers, the last being guys who would rather rule over ashes than play 2nd fiddle in a prosperous community.

Thanks.  I just forwarded those to my buddy.  His reply - "Cooper is a pretty smart guy, hopefully, he’ll moderate a way through."

For your, and his, sake - I hope so.

Cooper is a great leader. He's smart and he's patient and he's empathetic. However it just pisses off Republicans even more. They no longer have a supermajority and after this next election I genuinely hope that they are SO-O flamingly pissed off and crazy that they lose their majority. Even around here, the pull-down-the-temple act seems to have lost them a lot of support. I've seen no rebel flags and only one Trump sign in weeks.

DeSantis is pushing "ideological resting" in Florida universities so he can make sure there is "viewpoint diversity."

I am not making this up.

Were I a physician in that locale,  I'd get in the car and just keep driving.   "Good Luck everybody."
