This is pretty clear in refuting their claims of an "independent state legislature":

....."historians of the Founding Era agreeing that “[n]othing in the records of the deliberations at Philadelphia or the public debates surrounding ratification” supports the idea that state legislatures have exclusive power to regulate congressional elections. “There is no evidence that anyone at the time expressed [this] view…. [T]he interpretation is also historically implausible in view of the framers’ general fear of unchecked power and their specific distrust of state legislatures. There is no plausible eighteenth-century argument” for the independent state legislature theory, they say.

The historians also observed that those embracing the theory ignore the ample documentary evidence and instead rely extensively on a document that scholars proved long ago was written ten years after the actual Constitutional Convention."

To reasonable people, who desire a Democracy.

Sadly, I would not be so confident the SCOTUS will necessarily agree. As Dr. Cox Richardson shared, they may find a middle ground, preserving some semblance of the citizens having a say in who represents them. I would then look for more shenanigans from the folks who desire an authoritarian ruler.

Nice to see our POTUS meeting with and supporting our allies, instead of kissing rings and kowtowing to Russia and North Korea.....

Well well. Today, a Heather overview of the gun mess.

She can shift, inform, or illuminate my thinking on many subjects. On this subject, she seems to miss the actual historical setting.

  • The Continental Congress had ordered the Tories disarmed.
  • The militia was used to confiscate guns: they wrote reciepts for the guns taken, as directed.
  • GW personally led a large militia to suppress and disarm a widespread insurrection.
  • Later, Quaker gun issues were discussed before ratification of the BofR.
  • Slave control militia authority was also discussed, and was tweaked, for Virginia, in Virginia.

But personal self defense and armed insurrection against sitting tyrants, today's supposed justifications for gun rights, were not discussed by Madison, or by others.

Heller has a rotten-ass keel, fabricated by Libertarians. Heather does not seem to get the enormity of the "Originalist" deception. My .02.

"But while the White House this week was all about geopolitics and representation, the person who handles the president’s personal Twitter account apparently couldn’t resist poking a little fun at Trump’s news. “I had some MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS the last couple of weeks, too…” the account read:

“Inflation’s easing

I just signed the Respect for Marriage Act

We brought Brittney Griner home

Gas prices are lower than a year ago

10,000 new high-paying jobs in Arizona”

If the Democrats are trying to portray themselves as the competent party, the Republicans seem to be trying to give them a leg up."

The 14th Amendment Article 3 finally means something!!!

"In the shorter term, though, Representative David Cicilline (D-RI) and 40 colleagues yesterday introduced a bill in which the term “insurrection” matters a lot. The measure bars Trump from holding office under the restrictions imposed by the Fourteenth Amendment. Written in 1866, after President Andrew Johnson had pardoned most of the Confederate ringleaders and constituents had voted them back into office, Congress wrote:

“No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

One fact that I did not know:

"Trump raised “raised roughly one quarter of a billion dollars…between the election and January 6th” by falsely claiming election fraud. The “Trump Campaign, along with the Republican National Committee, sent millions of emails to their supporters, with messaging claiming that the election was ‘rigged,’ that their donations could stop Democrats from ‘trying to steal the election,’ and that Vice President Biden would be an ‘illegitimate president’ if he took office.” That’s a lot of money raised fraudulently, and the RNC was involved. The RNC shows up again when chair McDaniel agrees to help Trump with the fake elector scheme."

And this:

"Fittingly, on December 15, the Coup d’État Project of theCline Center for Advanced Social Research at the University of Illinois, which maintains the world’s largest registry of coups, attempted coups, and coup conspiracies since World War II, reclassified the events of January 6 as an attempted “auto-coup.” According to its director, Scott Althaus, an auto-coup occurs when “the incumbent chief executive uses illegal or extra-legal means to assume extraordinary powers, seize the power of other branches of government, or render powerless other components of the government such as the legislature or judiciary.”

This is part of the different universe that trumpalos live in. The rest of don't even see this bullshit.

It goes right to the Bannon strategy, "Flood The Zone With Bullshit" and it directly correlates with what we see from JokerDog & Elk, that if you just keep on repeating something, eventually it becomes true.

So, when the rest of us are following news about Trump's installing loyalists at the Pentagon and DOJ, conspiring to submit false slates of electors, and inciting a mob to murder his own Vice President, the trumpalos are only hearing what a great hero Trump is and how the evil LIBBY-RULLZ are so mean and so unfair.

If you want truth to go round the world you must hire an express train to pull it; but if you want a lie to go round the world, it will fly; it is as light as a feather, and a breath will carry it. It is well said in the old Proverb, ‘A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.’

"The numbers released show that Trump declared he lost money in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2020, so that he paid no income tax, and that he paid a total of $1500 in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017."

“These are issues much bigger than Donald Trump. Trump’s returns likely look similar to those of many other wealthy tax cheats—hundreds of partnership interests, highly-questionable deductions, and debts that can be shifted around to wipe out tax liabilities.

How many of us poor schlubs make far and away much less that Trump yet still pay a quarter or more of our income to the IRS and states???

It would really be beneficial to discourse on these boards if the Faithful would read this, and come to grips with the coercion and corruption from “Trump World” in pressuring an underling to lie to Congress. The quid pro quo for loyalty is explicit.

I totally agree, but doubt that any of the Trump supporters on here, or anywhere will ever read anything that is not favorable and probably full of adulation.
