Have you played around with the idea of two sail reaching? number one and an inside set staysail? I agree the keel is the first issue that needs tweaked. I would go for pole length too but that is much easier for me to do since I have a non articulating pole.
I have played around with jibs and staysails.  Pretty small windows to get it to work.  I do carry a job top that has worked really well at times.

This is would be a large undertaking but this is kinda the goal I would like to achieve for the boat.

This is essentially what I am working on as well w/my Lumbo. The new twin backstay config is a BIG improvement and the modern square top main design is a game changer.

The older Omohundro carbon rigs are overbuilt. Should be fine for the new loads. Just make sure your standing rigging is up to par.

Why so many Hendos for sale??? 4 or 5 in the classifieds.... what’s going on???
Not sure why so many are putting there's up on the market, but we have been thinking of listing our for the past couple months. After the season we decided it was time to see if there was any interest in the boat.

We want to try and get into a Melges 32, now that the prices are out of the 100's of thousands and since we have another here at our club and a few more on the bay. We love the Hendo and its still a blast to sail; just ready to move onto another challenge for us and that may be the same for other owners!

I here the guy in Detroit said it was gonna be a five year program twenty years ago. Now he wants to start carting around some cushions and standing head room for his feeble body on distance races.

Just out of curiosity, how many were built?
I believe there were a total of around 30 built. The run was from 1996 up through 2000. Also found this little nugget of info out from Glenn the other day that the hulls were built in Trinidad at SOCA's facility and final assembly was here in the US in case any of you wanted to know.

Cheers

I believe the number is 31 total. 28 production and 3 post production. I thought I had a pic of my SN plate from my boat but I believe we are hull 29.

Here's a challenge for you Henderson sailors. The BYC mac race has created a sportboat class for you. Below is part of the NOR.

Division IV – Shore Course - Sport Boat Division
A sport boat class may be established if the Race Committee has received at least eight
(8) completed entries from boats intending to race in this class. To be eligible for the
sport boat division, boats must meet the following requirements:
1) Water Line length (WL) limit of less than 35 feet.
2) The displacement to length ratio (DLR) shall be less than 118 - calculated as follows:
(27.87 x boat weight in kilos) divided by (WL in meters^3).
Boats sailing in Division IV are not eligible for first to finish or overall awards on the
Shore Course.

ooo my Columbia meets those requirements.

whoops actually it doesn't. That D/L puts me at 120.1. I suppose I could pull out the cushions... :)

Eerie, did you boat get moved? I saw that Say Uncle is no longer no the market... congrats to both parties!

I have also heard that there is a new Hendo I think Hull 12 that will be doing some distance racing up on the great lakes this year. They purchased the Hendo named "Marilyn" now "Rocketman" from Seattle. Lots of things going on this off season!

Yep, Say Uncle is in Florida now.  I talked to the new Hendo owner  on Lake Michigan. They are getting the boat sorted out and ready to rumble. Might go for a sail with them this summer.

Rocketman here! We did buy the Hendo from Seattle. The boats currently in Iowa going through a full refit before heading to Lake Michigan. I am super impressed with the build quality on these boats. Very stiff, built like a tank. Can't wait for a the first sail this year.

Pulled the engine the other day, pretty corroded. Going with a new Honda 9.9. Also stripped the entire interior for a power wash and cleanup. Pulled the sprit out for inspection, looked good, but needs a boot to keep water out ( I have a design in mind). Mast and boom are getting stripped down and repainted with linear poly. New lines, new sails (90, 100, 155, Main, A2 and Code Zero, Ouch!). Still have to inspect the rudder assembly but it appears to turn easily with no wiggle.

Lot's to do!
