Where in IA ...also what haror out of lake Michigan are you going to base yourselfs?
I am currently in the Chicago area unfortunately the boat is still on Lake Erie. If you have any questions about the boat feel free to let me know this will be yr 11 for us with our Hendo.Des Moines. I think the boat will be in Winthrop Harbor for the first part of the summer and then up North in the Green Bay area the last half of the summer

Cool. I have sailed over on the Michigan side quite a bit as well. Traverse City, Frankfort, Harbor Springs. All great places to sail. The Hendo will be on the WI side.Nice..I use to go to Des Moines a lot...work for a company in Dubuque and live over and sail on lake Mich on the the MI side.
So you still own your Hendo? Just curious why you keep it on Erie?I am currently in the Chicago area unfortunately the boat is still on Lake Erie. If you have any questions about the boat feel free to let me know this will be yr 11 for us with our Hendo.

I have recently relocated to the Chicago area so the boat is back at my home club still. Not ready to quadruple cost of a season quite yet. I would like to have it in Lake Michigan in the next year or so. Goal is to do a Mac on it.So you still own your Hendo? Just curious why you keep it on Erie?
We are running Marlow D2 I think, diameter of 3/8". If your cover is breaking check to make sure you don't have any big chaffe areas on the block or fairlead you are using.Hey out of curiosity you Hendo owners, what kind of line are you using for your tackline? I had a tackline cover break last year and I'm looking for a suitable replacement - your loading is probably higher than mine on most points of sail, so what diameter and what brands are you liking?
I ended up buying 8mm endura braid and splicing a tylaska onto the end. I didn't strip it because I'd rather have the durability than the weight savings. We haven't changed the fairleads but so far banjoing hasn't been a problem.Ryley - Try not to leave your loaded ropes (halyards and tacklines) exposed during storage but if you must, it's fairly easy to replace the cover.
I'd also reverse the line so the stripped area is virgin. On our Lumbo, we run Warpspeed 3/8 for the main tackline and another Warpspeed 5/16 - 2:1 for the Zero. Both are stripped and tapered before the clutches. We also swapped out the plastic deck fairleads with Harken Aluminum fairleads that are through-bolted so the foredeck crew can snap banjo it at the end.
We went salsa for the mainsheet, it's great and feels so good in the hand. Additionally we switched out the standard harken cleat for a spinlock cleat, this has made my main trimmer much more happy as he can more easily ease the sheet when its really under load.I ended up buying 8mm endura braid and splicing a tylaska onto the end. The other two upgrades so far were to replace the main sheet with salsa and to make a new outhaul that is 6:1. That endura braid I did strip partway, mostly to learn how to do it. I think it turned out pretty well but the proof will be once we start sailing in a couple months.
I did salsa for my mainsheet about 5 years ago. Still loving it.We went salsa for the mainsheet, it's great and feels so good in the hand. Salsa is one of the best lines for handheld mainsheets...I did salsa for my mainsheet about 5 years ago. Still loving it.
