I'm putting that place on my hangout list for Barcelona.

Full disclosure - we didn’t go there, just walked by and it caught my eye. (I’m sure their Guinness, etc is good; it just seemed odd to go to an Irish bar in Barcelona. But it’s probably somewhat “exotic” for the Spanish to go to an Irish bar? Not so much for a North American.)

Add this place to your list. Really, really good food. (Accredited by Slow Food, so you know it’s good. We had just stopped in there for a drink —quality Spanish vermouth is a recent trend—and then randomly noticed the “Slow” logo inside the place, so realized it was worth staying to eat.) Just stumbled upon it. A blend of regional (Spanish) Catalonia and Asturias food, modernized (despite what the name suggests. “Chigre” apparently means “bar” in the Asturian regional Spanish dialect, but this is much more than just a bar, but it’s a little place. As for “1769”, no idea, but it suggests it’s traditional food - which it is, being regional food— but it’s artfully modernized/blended.)

I don’t consider myself a “foodie”, but it’s really, really good food. I’m actually thinking very fondly about it right now, and I’m the guy who will also just scarf down a beer with a big load of French fries covered with mayo and ketchup… :) Not having been to Europe in a while for an extended trip, It made me realize/remember just how poor quality most of our food and drink is in North America.

I don't think I've ever had a bad meal in Spain. The hardest part for me is waiting until 9pm or later to eat dinner, since I am generally working when I am there. The companies I work for generally do not operate on Spanish time, even in Spain.

There was one restaurant in Valencia that catered especially to the AC crowd, particularly team members. They were finally convinced to start serving dinner at 8pm, and had people--furriners, like me-- standing in line outside well before that.

However, if you want the best food and are not on a schedule, you simply have at adapt to the habit of eating your major meal in the middle of the day, and a lighter one in the evening. I still struggle with that.
