For the VO65 "sprint" stuff, will they wait for the IMOCA to come back to do the last legs or will they have a seperate timing ? (didn't find the info anywhere)

I spoke with Jelmer van Beek last night from team Jajo.
He doesn't expect to win, but his first campaign is a terrific boost for his sailing career.
We wished him good luck.

He told his boat was lying in Valencia right now.
Docking fees in Allicante are skyhigh he informed us.
So are entrance fees. And they were looking for more sponsors..

The rest of the fleet isn't eager to dock either. This is a photo they took 2 days ago in Allicante.
4 days to go. Expect they will arrive soon.

I hope they step up their game. Weird formats and complicated rules keep sponsors away. Remember the festival the Rhum start was? That's the benchmark.

This will be nothing but a disappointment. Expecting anything more will set us up for further disappointment but teams not able to dock in the host city because dockage fees are 'sky high' is criminal considering the workforce and Ocean Race management number almost 100, all on very good money that Volvo, 11th Hour, Alicante and other host cities stupidly continue to pay. This race should have died and come back with fresh blood.

What to do you if throw a regatta and no one shows up?

I'm sure it's pretty disappointing to all those involved. Only 5 Imoca's on starting line and trying to do the whole lap. Great machines, but we have to expect some attrition. Hard to tell what's actually going on as the website doesn't seem exactly fresh.

Maybe 3 boats make it to the finish?

Hard to justify the organization I expect.

Not sure how complete and up to date the crew lists for the VO65s are but most of them look to be pretty short staffed at present and also plenty of new & fresh faces in that fleet, only 2 or 3 "usual suspects" signed up/listed at this point.
The VO65 Fleet are pretty much Corinthians with some pros on board when affordable

Yeah noticed that some teams only have 4 named. I would have thought there would be plenty of semi pros who want a spot for their resume etc.
