How about a The Ocean Race thread?

Not a good move, Herman, and what exactly was the problem anyway? The title?
Now we have to check 2 threads instead of one.
Just my opinion as the unofficial thread police here..
Hi Fiji, in the past 2 Volvo Ocean races I followed and posted here we always had separate leg threads. See the older threads. This is the first time the pre-race and the race gets tossed on one heap. Finding something will be finding a needle in a haystack with 1K posts and climbing.

Also we have two classes now that do not share the same route around the globe anymore. So certain legs will be more or maybe less interesting to specific viewers. But they will still have to crunch the whole thread.

The title of the thread is indeed a bit misleading now actual legs are discussed on.

So I'm in favor of an old school structured approach / thread building. Anyone else into that?

Hi Herman, funny, I now vaguely remember we had a similar discussion 5 years ago. This has been a good thread, started by the ever so cheery @Varan,which you are now giving the kiss of death. A kind of euthanasia while the person/thread maybe old but not terminal ill or totally demented.
And btw, finding a needle in a haystack is easy, as long as you know in which haystack to look, with the new in-thread search function for instance.
Whatever, your contributions are greatly appreciated by all, wherevever they appear. It's quite an effort, and we thank you for that.

I think this thread is valuable, but could, like the general IMOCA thread, serve as a general discussion of all things Ocean race, with more specific threads for specific races/legs. The IMOCA thread seems to work well like this,: we will have dedicated Vendee Globe thread for the next race, whilst still using the "The IMOCA thread, single/double...etc" for more general discussion between races.

In the spirit of general discussion, I'm wondering how people are now thinking about the future of The Ocean Race, now its actually underway. I had the view that this was its dying gasp, but having listened to various podcasts and interviews over the last few days, and "watching" leg 1, I'm revising my views.

I feel this could be a really important fixture in the calendar for IMOCAS, in particularly allowing up and coming younger ocean racers to get deeper experience of sailing IMOCAs prior to launching their own campaigns, in the company of very experienced skippers and team members. For example, Will Harris will take responsibility for Malizia on the next leg, and will be joined by Yann Elies- what an opportunity for Will. Similarly Sam Goodchild, Tom Laperche, (and others) on Holcim, learning from Kevin Escoffier. There are some great multinational teams in this race, broadening the experience base for many of these sailors. Could this be a good thing for broadening the international appeal of the IMOCAs?

Will the next leg be the first one in the history of the Whitbread/Volvo without any Kiwis? I haven't been through the crew lists, but I assume there was one on a 65 on the last leg.

You buncha fucking snowflakes. Who gives a duck what you think…. If Herman is willing to input the same hours, as a professional navigator (onshore) would, you should all just sit back & say thank you. Personally I wait for Herman’s updates, rather then look at the tracker…. hopefully once the leg starts, it will all become clear & y’all can go shove your woke snowflake attitude where the sun don’t shine. Sorry to share my opinion. Hope that ok

I have also read an article on "Segelreporter" about TOR and they apparently expecting 8-10 IMOCA60's to compete in 2027, in the next Race.

They will also make the Race Course more challenging for the next Edition meaning that you would need to built an "All-Purpose Boat" for 2027 and not just a boat that goes fast in downwind conditions like we will have during Leg 3 of this year.

I am hearing Auckland will be back as Stopover for 2027 and China possibly as well.

EXCUSE me- what have i said to offend you.? In what way could what I wrote be construed as not supporting Herman? I supported Herman's suggestion and value his input, Did you even read my post?
